What part of your game do you loose from not playing?
I played all last week down in Florida and found my weakness as a result of lack of play. Since September, when I went back to college, I had played 2 rounds. I found myself striking the ball solid but having trouble with my putting. For instance, one day I played, I had 7 birdie attempts within 6 feet and only converted 2 of them and I had 5 more that were outside of say 15 feet and I didn't convert any. I ended up shooting 73, 3 over par, but was kind of annoyed about my putting or lack there of. The funny thing is during the summer when I play every day I make sure I practice 100 putts. What do you guys find you tend to loose when you haven't played for sometime?
I lose the general feel in my full swings. Normally after a layoff my short game is OK, but I strike the ball poorly. Mostly with the short irons. The driver is usually OK although I do tend to be a little rusty after really long layoffs like a whole winter.
It's my iron play. I can practice my short game in the off season & it usually doesn't take me long to regain my mid-season form with my driver... which could be summed up as "wildly inconsistent" at best.
I lose the feel in my swing too, like it doesn't feel right when i swing. And I can't get the distance very accurate.
Nothing much really happens with my short game, because it's usually not too good anyway lol!
3 days is a big break off golf for me
If I couldn't play over winter, I'ld be a wreck by the time summer came - I hate to even think about having a huge break off like that, the thought just scares me!!!!!
I lose the touch on my 20-60 yard pitches. The putting and chipping stay somewhat okay because I have practiced it so much in the past, I can get the feel back pretty good but it will still be a little streaky.
On the other side of the coin, my tee shot accuracy improves. I think that is a function of not playing and therefore not trying to get to cute and over-analyze shots that should be "easy."
