pretty new golfer with sum ?'s

Hello, I am new to this board and well Im looking for some help. I took up golfing somewhat regularly about a year ago and I am beginning to play more often now. I have a slice a terrible one which is killing my distance on my drive. I can hit it a little bit over 200 yards with my slice. I have had some quick fixes that last for a very short period of time. I was wanting to know some fixes that really work for some of you? I was also wondering if my swing was to be the same whether I am hitting my driver or my 5 iron(or any other club besides chips and such)? Are they suppose to be basically identical no matter what club I am using??? Thanks a lot for replying I can really use ya'll's information

Your swing from club to club should only vary in that the swing plane changes as the club becomes longer and shorter, shallower for longer clubs, steeper for shorter clubs. Other than that, maintain the same swing for all your clubs, and you should be fine.

A slice results from an outside to inside swing path. That is, on the downswing, you're swinging from away from your body to the ball to your follow through, near your body. Try to do the opposite. Drop your hands immediately near your hips after you shift your weight and start your rotation, and hold a wrist cock until release through the ball.

I'm working on this as well.

If your grip is good also work on your release. At hip high on the follow through, the back of your left hand and the palm of your right hand should face the ground to hit a straight shot. It is similar to a base ball swing where the right palm and arm cross over the left.

Sounds as if you are not turning away from the ball in the backswing. This can cause you to come over the top on the downswing and hit from the outside. Try moving your right foot back at address. This will make you hit from the inside and cure that slice. You might even see a little bit of a draw. Good luck.

I think you should get along to your local pga pro for a lesson.
Then he can make sure your fundamentals (grip, stance) are right.
Without solid fundamentals you will never be a good player!

I used to have a terrible slice and what fixed my problem (knock on wood) is playing the ball back further in my stance off the tee. If I play it on the inside of my front foot I still slice to this day so I just use it to my advantage. If I am on a dog leg right I play it up and rip it. Anything else in the middle.

My slice was evidently from hanging back on my right foot. Try Ringers step through drill to correct this. It felt like I was getting my weight shift right but until using this drill I would still slice. My practice swings on the course I still step through and then hit normally on the actually shot trying to duplicate the feeling from the step through drill. Now have a bit of a hook and when I time things right its a nice draw, something I thought I would never be able to do.

I had a terrible slice, but I went and got 1 lesson from my pro and it's gone...Go to someone who can show you what you're doing wrong, listen to what they've got to say, and take it to the course...

Take a golf lesson if you can I had a horrible slice. went to the pro 40 bucks later my slice was gone. I was ripping the ball with my irons, nice clean shots and straight. My stance was all wrong to begin with , ball postioning was off etc etc. New stance is basically I lined up the ball to my left breast or inside of my left thigh, before I was way to hunched over so this time I keep my back a little straighter stand tall kind of, kept a nice v with my arms and always kept the but of the club by my belt buckle. Nice relaxed grip, trasfer my weight to my right leg, knees bent a bit and then unload to your left leg and boom killing the ball still some flaws in my swing especially with the driver, but with the irons I have never been this good. Driver is the next lesson.. If you can take a lesson self taught is great but he video taped me he put me on the monitor and we went frame by frame on what was wrong with my swing, then you go on the simulator tells you your speed, etc if you are opening the club face on impact.. Thats probably what your doing your swing is breaking down at some point and you are over compensating which makes you either closed the club face or in our dilemas open the club face. Which will make you hook, or slice hope that helps.
