Need a drill to help with contact

Hey guys and gals, I was wondering if anyone could recomend some drills to help me have better contact with the ball. I have a tendency to hit a ball slightly fat, meaning i take about a 2 inch divot thats not deep behind the ball. Im basically looking for a drill to help me come down on the ball for better compression.

thanks

I have a great drill for you. Put your feet together and hit 7-irons. I recommend this drill most of all the drills I use. Promotes great fundamentals and removes excess movement from your swing.

My first inclination would be that he is hitting off his back foot...of course, I haven't seen him swing and he didn't say so. Usually a ball routinely hit fat is the result of a sway combined with trying to get "under" the ball.

Im not truly sure. I think I have a decent plane, but instead of contacting the ball directly, i come in a little behind it and maybe make a 1/4" divot for about an inch behind the ball

The thing I'm gonna try to start in the spring/summer is, try swinging more with your arms and less pushing off with your back foot. Sounds like you've got a similar problem to me.

Ah! The Perfect Drill!

Place a tee in the ground about 6 to 8 inches behind the ball (all the way down).

Now, try and hit the ball without touching the tee. This makes you adjust your angle of attack and remedy those chunker fat shots!

I saw on the Golf Channel where an instructor took a piece of wood about 10" wide by 1' to a 1'-1/2 half long. Painted 3/4's of it red and the other green. He devided the two with a white line about 1" in width. He then set the white line to where it would line of if it was the ball. He would then hit the board trying not to hit the red but the white line and or green. He said it teaches his students to hit down on the ball versus hitting it fat. Anyway I went out and made me one of those boards I described and it has helped me some, but again I just started playing again after a 2-1/2 year layoff.

Wouldnt that ruin your clubs?
Or at least scratch them up pretty quick.

a great drill that helped me is i put a small piece of rolled up masking tape or any little rolled up thing (smaller than a size of a pea) and place it like 3" in FRONT of the ball...then i kinda aim at the tape and you'll know you hit it solid when both the ball and tape are gone after you swing...if the tape is still in the area you didnt get a clean hit...hope that makes sense and helps!
