Question Michelle's bunker grip?

In the Gallery, victory posted a photo of Michelle Wie hitting bunker shots under the watchful eyes of David Leadbetter called "Practicing Bunker Shots." I posted a question there, but apparently not many people have seen the photo or my post.

It appears to me that her lefthand grip is very weak and that her righthand grip is nearly under the club with the palm almost facing up.

What I want to know is if anyone else sees it that way, or if I'm seeing things. And if I'm not seeing things, should I be gripping my sand wedge like that?

For those wondering, this is the photo in question: http://www.golfrewind.com/gallery/sh...cutoffdate=all

To me it looks like a fairly standard bunker setup, just getting the club a bit more open. Maybe I'm not looking at it right though...

It looks to me as though her left hand grip is weak although it is hard to see from that angle. She's probably uses that grip so she can keep the clubface open through impact.

Whatever she is doing, it seems to work for her. Didn't she do really well coming out of the traps? I though at one point she was 4 out of 5 for sand saves.

Thanks for posting the link Card. I had already opened up another window to look for it before I saw your post.

Reminds me...

reminds me of something that Freddy Couples mentioned in his "Playing Lessons from the Pros" on The Golf Channel... talking about short pitch shots he mentions that an old golf coach told him to weaken his grip to help get the club under the ball. He said that it keeps him from having to rely on the blade doing the work of pinching the ball, which can be frightening on those close approach shots... I think of that on those shots and it helps me quite a bit... perhaps this is the concept behind using this in the sand? Helps get the blade of the club under the ball?
