So I hit my driver about 250-260 on the fly. My 3 wood about 230ish. My 3 iron = 200, my 4 @ 190, my 5 @ 180 then BOOM here come the gap. My six iron goes about 150 max then - 10 yards from every iron on till my 9. I hit my PW at 100 max. I hit all my short irons straight but they go nowhere. I can't seem to fix this problem If anybody has any tips, I welcome all comment. Thanks
Do you hit the ball high or low? How far do you want to hit your 6-iron? How far do you want to hit your wedge? Do you consistently come up short on your approaches? Answer these then maybe we can help.

That is truly bizarre ! It's the opposite of what most golfer's experience. You need to have someone who knows what they're doing look at your swing.
I've always hit the ball high. My six iron goes about 150 but my 5 iron goes about 180ish. From six iron down I am always short. Same trajectory as my longer irons but they are just much shorter. Yes, I do always come up short on my approaches. I have just learned to adjust on my distance when I am playing. But nobody ever understand how I can poke a 3 wood at 240+ but yet hit a 9 iron no longer than 110 yard. Hope this helps.
are you doing a forward press with you mid to short irons? where in the stance do you play all clubs? do you feel that you have a less agressive swing with those clubs?
Well, hard to say for sure, but it sounds like you are catching the ball slightly on the upswing...I'll bet you don't take huge divots if at all...probably clip it pretty clean, right? Works ok for woods and long irons but the shorter irons tend to "balloon" out. If this is the case you need to lower your trajectory on the mid/short irons...if you're doing what I described above then I would advise you to move the ball back in your stance (small doses) and practice (at the range) hitting down and through the ball more...one drill is to hit it under the bench - set a bench or something that is about 2 ft. high in front of you about 4 or 5 feet...this is a drill so don't hit hard, it's just to give you the feel of hitting down and through...use the 9-iron and hit with your normal delivery and see if it hits the bench...if it does then move the ball back just a bit and try delivering the clubhead with a more descending blow, keeping your hands ahead of the clubhead, accelerating all the way. Get to where you can hit an 8 or 9 under the bench (without maiming yourself) and take the bench away and hit full shots with the same motion/delivery...try to stay within yourself when you start sending lower traj bullets out there, swing normal, don't try to kill it. And be careful not to let this drill affect your longer clubs...even though hitting down and through may lengthen the longer irons you lose something valuable hitting them lower...remember, small changes can make significant differences. When you get to where the short irons are coming off lower then go through the whole rotation in your bag just to tie everything together...I know that's a lot of shags but should be worth it. Let us know when something works or not, somebody else may be able to help you better.
G'luck.
I agree with wazman, I would go and have your swing looked at by a swing coach. I did, cost me 50$ but added distance and now I can work the ball better

Shaderunner is right on!!!!!!!!!!!
You can also take two broken shafts and tie a light rope (or a light plastic tape used in marking construction zones) between at any level you would like and hit the ball under it.
Check your grip: make sure it is neutral and not weak. A weak grip can cut the ball leaving you a ligher shot with less distance.

I agree that is is probably a fault in your swing with those irons (99.9%)....a long shot in case that isn't the case is that maybe your shorter irons loft angles have been thrown off...since i'm not very knowledgable about the mizuno mp-30's, i'll leave that for others to discuss. I believe they are forged and if you practice a lot on hard ground and your irons are a few years old, it could happen. It happend with my co-workers 9 iron and pitching wedge in his set of Forged TA1's (but he was hitting every day....)
Thanks for all the info/comments. The bench drill is definitely on the works. Thanks shaderunner. I have always had this problem ever since I was a kid so it has got to be in my swing. I'm actually scheduled to have my swing looked at tomorrow so I hope that also helps. And about the mp30's, yes they are forged but I am also facing the same problem with my other set which are the ping eye2's. I appreciate all the input. Thank you guys and gals.
Just a quick point about the mp30's the loft on them is at least 2* weaker than a lot of other clubs , the only reason i know is that i checked was i had a simular problem with my mp 30's when i changed from taylormade rac os 's but that was down to not making proper contact ,now its sorted and i hit them further than ever now, i really had to make sure my hands are well in front of the ball and my left arm if straight at and beond impact.Hope this helps.

Just wanted to mention that this is the exact problem I am battling at the moment... Haven't been to a swing doctor, but I realized that I have much less forward press at address than a better player...

One of my friends has a problem with this , also. He's a "sweeper" in that he sort of picks the ball clean. This works for woods and some long irons, but if you don't hit down & through with your shorter ones your distance will suffer.
One last question: is it possible you are not getting your wrists cocked properly on the backswing? Or, at least cocking your wrists as much as you do on the long irons/woods?
I mention this because I was watching the Bobby Jones series on the Golf Channel last nite, and Bobby said this was something he had to be careful of with his shorter clubs (not getting enough wrist cock in the backswing).
