One thing that makes me hit everything fat is hitting off of mats at the driving range. Those mats are so stinking hard, if you stay down on the ball too much, almost trying to hit it fat, perfect shots still come off of the club. After a small bucket of that, I'll play like crud for the first 6 holes.

One of the main reasons that a good player like you can suddenly hit fat shots is from being too close to the ball. This usually comes from a bad pre shot routine of setting the feet first then the club head. Get your arms on top of your chest, set the club head behind the ball and leave it there, then set the feet for balance even between the heels and toes.

Teaser13,
Be aware at what point in the downswing you are begining to release the golf club. To early, club bottoms out. Usually this occurs when we try to get our dominant hand actively involved in the release. In actuality we end up throwing the right/left hand at the ball, hence an early release. Try to incorporate a little longer lag in the downswing. If you have access to a video camera take some shots of your swing from a head on view to see if you are in fact releasing the club early. Good Luck!!
