Hand position at impact.

I have come to conclusion that the proper position of your hands should be in front of the ball/passed the ball, then impact.

Does this sound right?

I was trying it and my game was just clicking last Sat. Basically I felt that once I feel/see my hands have passed the ball then I could go all at it and smack down at the ball. Hope this makes sense. I see the great delay too.

Yes you're right. Otherwise when the clubhead is out in front of the hands its known as "casting" which equals bad shots! :)

That sounds right when hitting irons, since you are hitting down on the ball. Does the same hold true when you're hitting on the upswing with the driver?

Not to the same extent maybe, but I don't think that your hands should ever be behind the ball at impact.

I'm happy if both my hands are still on the club through impact

Since christmas i've been working really hard on my irons , at impact i imagine my watch on the back of my left wrist facing directly at the target and relax my forearms it really gives a feelling of clubhead lag or hands in front of the ball before impact , it has helped me so much and my ball striking has improved in direction, flight and distance. The relaxed forearms really being the key.My clubhead speed with a 5 iron has gone up from 75/77mph to 88/90 i've been playing this game for 10/15 years on and off and this is the biggest thing i've ever discovered.Hope it helps.

Watto is correct, at impact on your irons your hands should be leading slightly, and you should have a flat wrist facing the intended target. Almost as if you were smacking the back of the golf ball with the emblem on your glove. However, with the Driver you should have the feeling of a photo finish between the hands and clubhead. Watto is also correct in that keeping the tension out of the guide arm will allow for a more stable position at impact. With the guide arm(right arm if r-handed, left arm if l-handed) supporting from underneath you can maintain the lag longer.
