Set=up posture

I normally have good flex in my knee's at address and have never had any soreness in my back, but lately i've been trying less flex in the knee's at address but noticed more back tightness. Is there more stress to the back with a more upright posture, ala, Freddy Couples?

With less flex in your knees, your back will strain more. It gets sore because now your lower back is trying to keep you from falling forward over the ball. The more flex you have in your knees the less your lower back strains. Most of the shorter players stay pretty upright like Couples and Maruyama.

I notice that if I have less knee flex I will draw the ball more but my back gets strained- I am 6'. My normal stance in a knee flex, str8 back- butt out a bit- less strain and gives me a nice high fade

It might just be from 36 holes in a day or from how many balls you hit on the range. Do you carry your clubs on your back or do you ride or use a push/pull cart? Do you have any old injuries that could be acting up on you? There are a number of reasons why your back could be bothering you. If you think it may have to do with your posture, ask a friend or your local pro to take a look at your posture. I really believe that sometimes when we try to achieve the ideal posture as stated by the gurus we go about it wrong, thinking that we are doing it right, and it causes us pain. I don't know your age but unless one is very young, trying to imulate the swings of the pro's is another good way to bring pain to yourself because many of us who are older simply do not have the flexibility to do this. Always do some stretching before tee time or hitting balls on the range. However, having said all of this, some swing changes will sometimes cause some discomfort until we get used to them. Just one more thought, when was your last physical exam? Get your checkups regularly. Hope the pain doesn't last and that you hit them long and straight.
