Let me guess you lose your focus if you are playing bad?

Pretend you are your best bud are playing for some money, that should keep you going.

I find I may have a few lapses during a round. I try to stay hydrated, eat a power bar and make sure I stay with my pre-shot routine. when I lapse I usually "mail in" my pre-shot routine and that is when I get into trouble.

Staying hydrated helps me a lot. Also I found that taking a little break, going into the clubhouse, eating, then taking a few practice swings or putts helps me be focused and fresh for the back 9.

It helps to switch off a little between shots - full concentration is only required when it is your shot. shoot the breeze with your partners, enjoy the scenery, don't count your score... Staying hydrated is good too - harder to concentrate if your body is suffering.

I find I play better when I'm not really thinking about doing anything certain. When I just go through the motions and do what comes natural I play much better.

There's your answer...I look at concentration/focus like a battery...there's only so much to go around so the way to "save" it is to do as JungleJ has suggested. Of course to "switch" back on can be tricky and takes practice. At the turn I like to keep going...sure, rehydrate and eat a little something, but keep moving. Going inside the clubhouse at the turn will almost always adversely affect my game.

You go into the clubhouse at the turn to eat at most of the public courses I play and you'll come out 10 groups further behind than you were when you went in!

I agree with the last 4 posts... league, because you don't dare even slow down at the turn around here unless you want to lose your spot. The others have the right idea. Golf is supposed to be fun and relaxing. After I hit my shot(as long as I've hit it where I'll be able to find it) I'm thinking and talking about anything but my game. I may give some thought as to what club and where I want to hit it as I approach my ball and if I'm working on some problem I may have a swing thought at address... anything else would be too much work.

The above posters are bang on.
I tend to let my mind wander a bit between shots, then stick to my very relaxing routine of positve thinking before every shot. I have done it so long it happens automatic. I am a creature of habit. Staying positive is the best habit for golf.

I guess the courses I play aren't that busy. Usually I have a little time to grab something small before the final nine.

one day i started whistling the theme to greenacres and i ended up shooting like one over for the nine. It's definitely helped to whistle some kind of tune in my head, keeps me nice and relaxed. I find when I do this, I tend to throw some darts up there on the green.
