how far am i supposed to be hit my sand wedge? my shots with the sand wedge are baffling to me. from 100 yards, i hit a pitching wedge and from 115, i'll hit a 9 iron. i hit a 6 iron 150 yards.
i'm fine from 90 and 80 yards because all i have to do is choke up on my pitching wedge a little. the problem is from 40 yards to 70 yards. i've read about distances you're supposed to be able to hit clubs (depending on how far you hit other clubs) and i think i should be able to hit a sand wedge 80 yards. the one i carry is 56 degrees with 10 degrees of bounce. the thing is, i hit my sand wedge more like 50 yards unless i skull it.
my shot goes really high and when it comes down, stops a couple of inches from wherever it lands. no matter what i do, i can't seem to hit it longer than 50 or 60 yards (unless i skull it). is this normal or should i be able to hit it longer?
Sounds normal based on your other distances...wedge = 100, 56° = 50\60, right? So 53° = gap wedge = 70\80. Worth the invesment because gripping down on a wedge to take 20 yds off usually results in deceleration\skull shots.
i guess it's normal then. i swear, i tried everything to get the sand wedge to go further because i thought i was supposed to be able to hit it longer.
Well, then here's a drill to help you hit that sandy a lil' further\more solid...Hit it under the bench. Set a bench or chair a little ways downrange (couple feet) to where you could normally clear the top with relative ease. Adjust your setup with the ball slightly back from center of your stance, hands slightly pressed forward and club face square (it's easy to close it down with this drill). Now hit a couple bags of balls trying to hit under the bench not over it. And not skulling it under, either. :o Keep the hands forward thru the shot, not allowing them to flip release thru impact. This is the classic "knockdown" shot and drilling on it with your wedge can help you bring the ball flight down and make your shots really solid...I've found that it also bleeds over to the other clubs in your bag giving you a more solid contact and lower trajectory. Of course, like Harvey always said, too much medicine is bad for anyone...couple o' teaspoons oughta be enough.
play more back in your stance swing faster after th club makes contact with the ball it should fell like you ars extending so you hit it lower and longer
He said so in a program that was on post open championship here in Indonesia...I am sure he can, but does he want to? I was suprised as well, I can hit mine 105 if hit sweetly, but am much more accurate and consistent for 85 yds...just repeating what I saw in an interview....
