Well, I was asked to play with my father in-law and brother in-law, both scratch golfers, in a three man scramble at a course I have never played. I agreed just to stay in good with the family. Bad mistake! We went off in the first flight with three other scratch golfers. I was the last one to tee off and topped my drive to the ladies tee box. If this wasn't embarrassing enough I did the same on the next two tees.
I would have to say mine was two years ago on a course I had never played...My foursome was coming up 18 fairway and I was preparing for my approach shot on the par 4 after a very good drive down the right side of the fairway. My buddy in the foursome made me aware that there was a huge wedding party on this BIG deck that overlooked the course (obviously very well off people) ....and it was about 30-40 yds to the right of the 18th green...he also let me know that they were all watching us play. Wouldn't you know it I hit one of the most flush iron shots of my life......30-40 yds right of the green and DIRECTLY at the wedding party. I've never seen rich people scatter so fast in my life, my ball bounced off one of their tables and came to rest on the deck....thank god I didn't hit anyone or break any of their flatware. So I walk up and find my ball, everyone just staring at me...Finally one guy yells "WELL YOU GONNA PLAY IT OR WHAT?"
Everyone was laughing pretty good....glad he broke the ice. :)
I entered my first tounament at club championship as a 15 year old. I had sprained my left ankle about a week b4 playing hoops. On the first hole, with about 20 people watching, my ankle collapsed on my follow thru and fell flat on my ***. Ended up parring that hole! Went downhill from there....
At a course near my house they put up one of those little memorial plaque type thing to commemorate a long standing member who had passed away. You guys know what I'm talking about. Anyway, it is about twenty yards up from the tee's and about 30 feet off to the left and I heeled my drive, nailed it and it came back at my group as fast as it went out. Drilled one of my foursomes bag. I didn't seem to come off the tee to well that day after that shot. That is probably the most embarassing, but I have had my share of swings and misses, falling down, dumping my bag. Good times.
i was at a relatively short par 3. about 155 yards which is a 6 iron for me. you just have to carry a little creek and there's out of bounds on the right up to about the green so you can miss it right. so i tee up and shank my 6 iron. i see it go past the visible out of bounds area so i figure, i'll just hit another ball and pick the ball up after. i shank the next shot in the exact same place. so i hit another shot and shank that one, too.
i told my friends, forget about it. i've shanked 3 shots in a row. i'll just play it. so i go to find my ball only to see that it's out of bounds over there, too. there was no way i was going to find my ball with all of the bushes and shrubs so i lost 3 balls on one hole and never managed to even get 1 shot in play!!!!
I was around 12 years old playing the New Ulm CC in Minnesota that my family lived on. Number 7, slight dogleg right, Jesse the Body Ventura was playing with a few BIG bodyguards and some bimbos. I connected with my second shot and hit their golf cart. Yeah, I stayed back for awhile until they were long gone.
First day on a regulation-length course after not playing for 20 years. Had been taking lessons during the winter and practicing at an indoor range. Was sure I'd shoot bogey golf. Dressed up nice (sharp sweater vest) and walked on as a single at a nice public course. First tee. Three partners I'd met 2 minutes before. Other strangers watching.
At a 45-degree angle from the tee, about 20 yards away is a small (20' in diameter) depression filled with water. It's not a hazard, just an ugly puddle. It's got a pump in it and a hose. I confidently do my waggle and smack one off the toe directly into the puddle. Could actually hear the snickering. Reloaded. 4-1/2 hours later I had my 105. Welcome to the NFL.
