Hi from a newbie

I'm relatively new to this game of golf. I did play some many years ago, but none for 20 years until about five years ago when I started again. I played maybe three to five times per summer until last summer when I decided to take up the game in earnest. I am currently developing a true index and need three more rounds to get the 5 minimum needed. To date, a 91 and a 102 (ugh!) give me an average index of 23.6 for my home course, The Highlands of Elgin in Elgin, IL. That would compute to a 15 handicap, which, of course, is not accurate with only 2 entries. I understand that 20+ entries are really needed to arrive at a reliable handicap. I will get there easily this sunner

My short term goal for this summer is to get to a consistant mid to low 90's and break 90 a few times. By mid summer of 2005, I expect to be breaking 90 on a regular basis and by mid summer of 2006 I hope to see a consistant mid to low 80's. However, if I progress better, hehehe, that would be great. If slower, that will not alter my view that this game is and will continue to give me the stress release I need from the many stresses of life. I need not repeat them here because I am quite sure that everyone else has them as well; some worse, some not so bad.

As a 58 year old HS biology teacher with a good wife and twin 24 year old daughters, I am extremely lucky in my life. I am going to keep my mind where it needs to be by developing this enjoyable hobby as a lifetime mentally relaxing and cardiovascular healthy pastime. I walk with a push cart.

My current set up:
Driver = SMT 370cc NEMESIS, 11* with 3* offset
FWoods = Thomas Sightlines, 5,7,9 (3W currently in dog house)
Irons = Snake Eyes, 4,5,6,7,8,9,PW, SW & Cleveland Gap (51*)
Putter = Snake Eyes, MCS3

Also have:
TM 360XD (10.5) that I need to reshaft
TS 380 (10.5) Driver
TS 3W
SE 3 Iron
Cleveland LW (60*)

Well, enough is enough. I look forward to posting and reading here as well as on the Golf Digest Equipment forum. :)

Great to have you on board! I was shooting in the 90's just a year and a half ago. I made my own par at a bogey a hole and it really helped my mentality. I think it helped me play smarter because I knew a bogey would be my standard. Like if I hit a drive behind the tree, if I used par as the standard, I might play a stupid shot but with a bogey a hole in mind, I was more apt to get the ball in play. Good luck with your game this summer! It's great to see that you have some goals set out for your game.

Angry Why the Weekend Duffer tag?

Where did that come from. I plan to play 3-5 time per week and practice more as well. I gues I just don;t like "TAGS" put on me by others without my knowing it! :(

I'm sorry about the "Weekend Duffer" tag. It doesn't represent your golf ability. It just means you are a new member to the forums. There are three levels:

0 - 29 posts: Weekend Duffer
30 - 99 posts: Golf Enthusiast
100+ posts: Tour Pro

There's another thread about the issue in the Announcements & Feedback forum. Here is the link:
