I'm relatively new to this game of golf. I did play some many years ago, but none for 20 years until about five years ago when I started again. I played maybe three to five times per summer until last summer when I decided to take up the game in earnest. I am currently developing a true index and need three more rounds to get the 5 minimum needed. To date, a 91 and a 102 (ugh!) give me an average index of 23.6 for my home course, The Highlands of Elgin in Elgin, IL. That would compute to a 15 handicap, which, of course, is not accurate with only 2 entries. I understand that 20+ entries are really needed to arrive at a reliable handicap. I will get there easily this sunner
My short term goal for this summer is to get to a consistant mid to low 90's and break 90 a few times. By mid summer of 2005, I expect to be breaking 90 on a regular basis and by mid summer of 2006 I hope to see a consistant mid to low 80's. However, if I progress better, hehehe, that would be great. If slower, that will not alter my view that this game is and will continue to give me the stress release I need from the many stresses of life. I need not repeat them here because I am quite sure that everyone else has them as well; some worse, some not so bad.
As a 58 year old HS biology teacher with a good wife and twin 24 year old daughters, I am extremely lucky in my life. I am going to keep my mind where it needs to be by developing this enjoyable hobby as a lifetime mentally relaxing and cardiovascular healthy pastime. I walk with a push cart.
My current set up:
