I am getting back into golf after a 15 year abscence. Only played a couple of summers back then and before that it was more than 25 years ago that i played a round. I plan on hitting the range soon (I bought one of those "idiot" books to get me back to the basics).
My wife has been bugging me to go as she enjoyed playing and was getting fairly good but family commitments and the kid's sports kept us away from the links. A recent trip to Georgia with some family and a couple of days accompanying the guys on the course there has rekindled my interest.
Hopefully the wife and I can get can enjoy it together.
Welcome mikeb.....whereabouts in Western NY are you from? Being a Northwestern PA'er, and very close to the border at that, I spend some time playing the tracks in Western NY from time to time. Anyway, hope you enjoy the site and hopefully will keep us updated on your progress in this great game of ours.
and welcome to GR! This is a great place to visit and meet lots of great people! Glad to hear that your wife enjoys golf too. I love getting out with my hubby!
Welcome aboard. It's not too common that the Mrs. wants to go golfing, so enjoy that perk. Mine tolerates my interest, but did go to a Par-3 course Monday with the boys and me.
FYI, I'm up in Northeast Ohio, not too terribly far from you and StlCard_25. Maybe we can get together before the end of the season to play a round?
Thanks for the warm welcome(s)!!
I am in Jamestown (12 miles from Warren, PA and 45 from Erie). Lots of nice courses here.
Well....that makes you about 10 miles from me!! I live in Russell, between Jamestown and Warren and about 2 miles from the border. Which courses do you typically play?
Stlcard_25: Haven't played since the mid to late 80's but we would play Sunset and Willow Run with the latter being our favorite (great scenery and the course owner, Clem, was a real gentleman.) He sold the course awhile after I stopped playing so I don't know how it is now. I've been by Blueberry and it looks really nice; do you play there?
dante: I first played at the 9-holer by the Buffalo Botanical Gardens when I was in grammar school in Buffalo. That was/is(?) a neat little course.
11thPlague: didn't mean to ignore you with my last post. I'm not familiar with any courses in your neck of the woods (or in the Erie, PA area for that matter.) Have you ever been to Peak'n'Peek? I would like to play there someday.

Sunset Valley was the little executive course I'd always sneak off to in between classes at the community college when I had the chance. Good test for the wedge game. Willow Run I'm not familiar with, nor have I really even heard of it...where's it at?
Blueberry is the other course here in Russell.....I work at Cable Hollow and play there for free ( ) so I only get up to Blueberry once a year or so. That said, my annual visit must come from some masochistic tendency or something because it never fails to eat my lunch. Trees, trees, everywhere...and although only 200 or so yards longer than Cable Hollow from the tips, it seems to play much longer.
You mentioned Peek'n Peak in your other post. I wanted to play there badly when they had that half price deal this spring, but I couldn't find anyone to go up there with me. Maybe once they get that deal going again in the fall we could get together with Dante if he's willing to drop down and 11thplague if he's up for a daytrip and play there.
Stlcard_25: Way to go...free golf!! Can it get any better?
Willow Run is a 9-hole executive on Rte. 394 between Stow and Chautauqua Institute (in a community called "Magnolia".) I remember it as a beautiful spot especially in the fall.
I'll have to keep an eye out for that Peek'n Peak deal; it would make a good outing if you and the others are willing to put up with a hack like me.
