It finally happened - I found a sport I enjoy playing. I was even in the back yard in the rain a few weeks ago, trying to chip some balls at a frisbee.

Suffice to say, I'm new here.

I played my first 9 holes in 20 years about 7 weeks ago, at the urging of my newly-acquired stepsons and stepdaughter's boyfriend (with a <5 handicap, I figured he could at least point me in the direction of the hole). The 20 years ago part was limited to maybe a half dozen or so par-3 rounds at the local place before my dad got sufficiently frustrated to quit the game himself.

I got my first bogey on a par-4 yesterday, missing par by [not a lot] on a [I'm not sure how far - maybe 2 flagpole lengths?] putt. I suspect that one of these days I'll have to learn how to judge distances better.

And yes, right now I'm driving with a 3-iron.

Yeah, really good advice like that flagpole is taller than I am,
so I'd say 2 x "whatever that number is but I know it's bigger than 5ft" = your distance of that putt. OUCH, that hurts to think about.....so that makes it at least 10ft + " whatever that number is bigger than 5ft". See? Easy.
