is golf like riding a bike?

Hi everybody. I'm Phil from new york and I haven't played golf regularly in 15 years. I broke out my old clubs today to get ready for a round with some work buddies. A long time ago I had a custom persimmon driver made for me, and I like to hit soft balls with it. I have maxfli ddh's in my bag from long ago. (Do golf balls loose compression?) I went on the net to try to find the answer as well as to find out what golf balls are considered soft these days and found this site. I may not have much to add due to my lack of recent experience, but I grew up caddying and playing golf and once had a 12 handicap. I'm looking forward to getting back into it.

Welcome zeke27...we're honored to have you here. I hope all goes well in your return to golf, and any questions you have will likely be addressed by one of the many knowledgable folks we have frequenting the forum. I look forward to reading how you progress as you come back to this great game we love.

As for which golf balls would be considered soft nowadays, any of the urethane-covered balls such as the Titleist ProV1 or Nike ONE or Callaway HX series have a soft feel, but often I've read that they're very difficult to hit with persimmon clubs because they don't spin as much off the driver as the older golf balls. Possibly something like the Titleist DT Solo, Maxfli Noodle, or Nike Mojo would suit you, as they're lower compression balls that still impart a bit of spin off the driver, allowing you to get the ball in the air easier. I'm sure someone else would have a better response than mine, and possibly if you post it in the Golf Equipment forum, you'd find that better response.
