I have just started playing again in 2005 after a 5 year layoff because of illness. Played to a 1 handicap in my best days and am working at recapturing that and then improving on it. Started playing late in life (age 27) and as most found the game to be the most personally rewarding game I had ever played.
Didn't care to practice much when I was younger but now actually love going to the range to work on technique and shotmaking skills.
During the illness related layoff I really never thought I would ever play golf again and believe me when I did start playing again there sure was some frustration. But I've worked through that and can honestly say that I believe my best golf is yet to be played.
The only thing I really focused on this past year was my ball striking consistency and late in the year figured out one thing in particular that not only improved it but virtually guarantees solid ball striking and smooth swing tempo. It's the reason I feel that my best golf is yet to come.
Well that's enough for now I just wanted to say hello to everybody here and wish you the best in your search for improvement.
Hi SmoothIt, Your intro hits home with me. I too had a forced "layoff" and am dealing with a lot of frustration getting my swing back. Mine was a bad car accident and I only lost 1 season of golf - I made a slow start back onto the course this past September 1st and then had only 2 months of play - with really disappointing results - but I am determined to get it back (even considering becoming a "lefty", if it will help....) I hope you will be okay and that you'll get your impressive 1 handicap back...
Welcome to GR SmoothIt. The best part about your story was that you have over come the layoff and are able to get back to what you love doing. We will enjoy your presence on the forum.
