However, I love the game and I love the time spent with my hubby, we have a great time! My driver is not the best for me either, and often I will just use another wood off the tee. Many times, it will go much farther and the end results are better than if I used my driver.
I wish that my wife played with me. I think that's wonderful. Is he pretty good? I haven't broken 100 either. I have played 9 holes at 49 once, and this is my first real year of play. I have had clubs for about 5 years, but only been out about 5 times before this year. I've been out 5 times so far already. I'm excited about getting better.
p.s. Are you going to take lessons? Are you looking to buy a new driver?

My husband (ForgedRbest - a member here as well) has been playing for about 40 years and is a very good golfer. I started out taking group lessons through the local community college. I also took private lessons from the pro who taught the class - he is a personal friend. My husband would sit in on the lessons so the pro could tell him what to work on with me. Forged is extremely patient and has been a great teacher as well.

During the first year, I had some health issues that ultimately required surgery, so I lost some of my momentum with my progress. I was really getting back into practice and improving last summer when Hurricane Katrina hit our area. My local driving range that our golf pro friend ran was destroyed, so we've lost our practice facility. We have so much work going on right now with repairing our house with other renovations, that I don't have much time for golf right now.

The biggest problem I have with my driver is I've lost a great deal of weight since I was first fitted for my clubs. According to my hubby, I need ladies' shafts now (I have men's reg. shafts), but I'll just have to make do with what I have for now. I don't play enough right now to spend the money when we have so much else to take care of.

I feel like I can improve my game when I play more so than at the driving range. What about you???

Well they do say you have to watch going to the driving range, because if you have any bad habits, you are reinforcing them. Usually when I go, it's on my way home from a bad or stressful work day, I get a small bucket for $6, hit the **** out of some balls for 30 minutes, and go on home feeling MUCH better.. More of a stress releiver than a practice thing.

I also have the Ben Hogan book...Five Lessons. Its a good book, only minus is like we mentioned before - having to convert everything in your head when reading a tip. Hogan has some good insight on the grip though that I use. I also have Harvey Penicks' Little Red Book checked out from the library, he has some really good points too - especially 'the Magic Move'. Working on that now.

I rely on the Steve Anderson book more than anything. I'm not the guys relative or anything and trying to help him sell his book, but if you're a lefty and beginning, there's nothing else like it. Its just for us!

Golf Digest is doing a "100 day" giveaway right now, they are giving away a new x460 Callaway driver every day for 100 days. Its an instant win thing, you can hit it off their website. I think it ends in early July. I saw the ad for it in the magazine itself and gave it a try, and wouldn't you know, I won one! Definitely the nicest thing I have ever won...

I've only broke 100 once, a 96. Last time out was 107 for me. I'm horrible but this game is so addicting, even after not quite two years....I just love it..watching it on TV, talking about it, playing it. I figure I'll get better over time...

I agree. I have been out a few times this year. I shot a 49 and you would've thought that I won the lottery. I was very happy with my performance. I'm not any good either. I plan on taking a lesson or two this summer, and I also plan on playing at least twice a month.
