Newbie just joining!

Greetings everyone.

This is my very first post on Golf Rewind. This looks like a great place to chat about golf.

I started playing golf around 1987 or so when I was in the U.S. Coast Guard and stationed in Boston, MA. My wife's sister's husband is a very very good golfer in near Buffalo, NY and has played a few amatuer tournaments up there. He is responsible for getting me into the game.

I just updated my "profile", if you are curious as to who I am and so on. I recall an old golf message board/forum just a few years ago that was nice, but, if you didn't play with top of the line equipment, you were publicly ridiculed and bad mouthed.

I have a nice set of custom made, component clubs, that are designed and patterned after the nice PING i3+ series OEM clubs. These clubs say Z-Tour-3+ and are NOT a cheap "clone" but more of a knockoff of PING. Nothing wrong with that, IMHO... See, my next door neighbor gave me the name and phone number of a guy in Virginia Beach who makes clubs in his basement as a little side business. I ordered a 52* gap wedge to see how this guy works and if it is legit. Sure enough, I got a beautiful 52* gap wedge via UPS and it plays and looks perfect. Therefore I decided to order the full 3-PW set from him, then slowly get a 3W and 5W and a driver of my choice made by him. Once I got my set complete and built by him, I took my old set of clubs to the used golf store and hocked them, and took the money to buy a nice new golf bag and pull cart.

Best round of golf in my entire life: 78

Best shot in my entire life: 8 iron from 150, center fairway, going with the wind. The ball landed on the green, 8 feet away, turned, and rolled straight into the cup! My first and only EAGLE!!!

Longest drive: 268 (+/-) I drove the green on a very, very, short par 4 hole at a small 9 hole county muni course, then two putted for birdie.

I am hopelessly addicted to golf and love the sport. I kind of view myself as kind of a Fred Funk or Corey Pavin kind of player. I'm not that long off the tee, but I have a great wedge game.

Butch A.

Welcome to the GR forums! As long as you love the game, the equipment you use won't matter!
