Longer Shafts

I just bought a set of Tommy Armour 845 irons, used. I stand 6'2"; these clubs came with shafts an inch longer than my old clubs. I thought they'd be perfect, but I can't hit 'em! I was told, "These clubs are more upright." OK--any thoughts on what adjustments I need to make to hit my new clubs? "Can't hit 'em" means I shank, or I pull 'em; sometimes I hit a big fade.

Welcome to GR! Get fitted and then have the clubs adjusted to your specs. Probably just need the lie angle adjusted, but if they are too long for you and the fitting session will bear this out, they can also cut the butt end of the shaft to shorten the clubs.

Ask follow up questions in the Equipment and Club Making Forums, there are lots of knowledgable "Gearheads" in there that can help.

Ditto on getting fitted. Some time ago I had been playing with regular length shafts (I'm 6'5") and went to 2 inches longer and a much better game after the fitting.
