Just wanted to drop a thread and say hello. I've been checking out the site for some time and finally got to registering. I'm a newborn golfer, started about 6 weeks ago. I swung some at the driving range but never really took it seriously. I was taken out for my first 9 by my father-in-law and been "hooked" since (even though I slice). I'm taking lessons to try to learn the correct way before I start to many bad habits. I recently played my first 18 at a municipal course in Philly and well...I need more lessons. I look forward to reading more golf tips and stories that get posted.
Since you are new to golf my advise is to learn the importance of the short game 1st. It is the easiest part of the game to learn first because the strokes are smaller. Don't get hung up on hitting it long and longer. Learn to score around the green and work your way back to the tee from the green as you progress in golf. Golf is about scoring. Remember you play the game by getting the fewest strokes per hole. More then half the strokes played in golf are played 100 yds in. Ask your PRO he'll agree.
