Hi from Scotland. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!

Hi everyone

Looks like a good busy forum!

I look forward to reading your past comments.

I'm in Glasgow on the west side of Scotland. Very wet!

Stays drier on the east where St Andrews is although can be colder.

They're playing off mats over there right now to protect the course.

I Look forward to chatting with you all!

John

Hi Shade

From beginning November to end March, players playing St Andrews Old Course and Eden course must play every shot from a mat.
Obviously to avoid taking divots from the turf as maintenance isn't the same in the winter months.

I've never played off mats but might get to try it this weekend!
A couple of guys are coming from Georgia this week and I think I have to look after them. They want to play the Old Course.

Should be an experience!!

Welcome aboard. My ancestors came from Scotland (after they were run out of every decent town and hamlet). You'll love GR.

Welcome to GR. My ancestors also came here from Scotland. Why did they ever leave? Such a beautiful country. Friendly people, if I could understand them.

Hi Bill
Leaving Scotland for the USA might have something to do with the weather!

I'd leave for USA if I got the chance.
Britain is far too expensive.

You definitely get more for your money in USA.

Welcome John,

I'm a Sassenach from 200 miles south of yee.
I played at a 'Muni' for years that you only ever hit off grass in Competitions.
Filey use mats on tees only from November to March but they are testing out the small mats for all shots.

Hi
Thanks for the welcome!

I've played off tee mats many a time. Never tried the fairway stuff. I suppose it should encourage clean hits.
We'll see!!

Welcome to the board. My weekend golfing partner here outside Houston was born and raised in Scotland...and I've forgotten where, exactly. One of the most interesting and talented people I've ever met.
