Just wanted to say hi to everyone! I've only been on a course once and been to the driving range about 10 times. I've been addicted since the 3rd visit. I don't even have any clubs yet but in the market for some clubs right now. I figure I'd wait for after Christmas or after New Year's sales. I currently play my brother's set which is the Cleveland Launchers. I only average about 125-135 yds with his 6 iron. This might start some controversy but I'm a Ping man , I know there are little Ping fans here . I just like the way they feel.
Anyhow, just wanted to give everyone a heads up on a new fish snagged by the world of Golf.
Welcome to the board! If you're new to golf in the STL area, I'd suggest the following courses:
St. Ann (north of St. Charles Rock Road). Cheap, flat, short, no real real hard holes
Ruth Park (U City off of Bonhomme). A little hillier than St Ann but sometimes I've joined up with U City highschool golf team members for a round.
Columbia IL River Lakes (18 holes, across the river). Real flat (in the Mississippi flood plain between Columbia and the JB Bridge). Another one that's friendly to new golfers in that it's not real hard, and it's so flat it doesn't matter if you occasionally spray one way way left or right

I'm in South County, OAKVILLE to be exact. I don't even have a set of irons yet. I just bought a driver, used Ping G5 10.5 stiff from Golf Discount. Went to Tower Tee today and hit 2 jumbo buckets with my friend. I had a couple of 250 yd-ers but average 150 or so. Once I started to get the hang of my driver, I totally forgot how to hit irons. I have to get used to hitting drivers and irons differently.
