Welcome to Golf Rewind, 70445! So you're a Jayhawk fan, huh? I attended the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign so you guys stole our old coach, Bill Self. Maybe we'll have some heated college basketball discussion during the Fall. The Jayhawks and Illini should both have great teams next year. Oh yeah, we can talk some golf, too.
Kansas, Home of the best basketball in the USA? The Pistons might have something to say about that!
Yeah, I know college basketball is supposed to be more of a "team" sport but I doubt Kansas could keep up with the Pistons.
I'm glad there's a Michigan State Spartan fan on here, too. I have a feeling come college basketball season, there might be a lot of banter over in "The Clubhouse." Go Illini!
What's basketball??? From Pittsburg, I'd think you'd be a football fan. Didn't the Gorillas win quite a few Juco championships? I live in Manhattan, so certainly have a difficult time rooting to loudly for the folks in Lawrence. But, for the most part, it's a friendly rivalry.
Where do you typically play in SE Kansas? Do you venture over to Joplin/Springfield area? You're not too far from some great venues in the Tulsa area. Have you made it up to Manhattan yet to play Colbert Hills?
Seems to me that football season should be pretty heated around here. I was born and raised in Ohio, so Buckeye football has no peer. Too bad we can't beat up on the Kansas teams every year!
Yes , we are home to the Pitt State Gorillias. We are not however a Juco, but a four year university. The enrollment is around 8,000. However we are, Kansas Jayhwaks fans also.
Courses I play in this part of the sate are as follows, Neosho Mo Public course ( rateing of 8 on a to 10 scale) very tight and hilly with trees numbering in the thousands, In Kansas City we like to play Iron Horse and Swope courses (home to the Mo qualifing course for US Open). Also we like the Hammonds or Highlands Hills(home to the Nike tour or whatever its called now) course in Springfield Mo.. Locally we play the local muni, Four Oaks. Each is different in its own right and each has its strong points. We also play Periora Ridge in Miami Ok. Its home to a mini tour event.
I heard great things about the Cobert course but never travel in the direction.
If you're in this part if the state call me and we'll play.

Pittsburg
Played Highland Springs, in Springfield, a number of times. A super course and quite an experience. Likewise, if you ever get a chance to come north and would like to play Colbert, holler. We're usually the first or second group off on Saturday morning. (Sorry about PSU... Yes, I knew it was a four-year school, but had a brain f*** and wrot Juco. Terrible to get old!)
BTW-70445 . . . does Pittsburg still have some brick streets? If memory serves there was a great restaurant north of town called "Chicken Mary's", it was only open three or four nights a week . . . does it still exist?
Yes we still have a few brick streets! They are however in the really old part of town and most of the have beeen covered up. The CHicken Mary's place is still open 6 days a week, very popular.
