Mike Souchack and the 1960 U.S.Open

Hi all you golfers. I heard this story, maybe I dreamed it. But in 1960 at CherryHills, at the U.S.Open on the 18 hole , Mike was leading after 36 holes and I think coming to the 54th hole he still had the lead. As he was about to hit, a photographer snaped on his backswing, he hit the ball in the water. Can anyone tell me if this is true, and where did he endup for the 72 holes. As you know on the last round the limelight switched to Arnold Palmer.
