Hello from Oregon

Hi all, just saying hello. Just found this forum, as I'm just starting to get serious about golf again. In high school I played to as low as a 6 (for about a year), but stopped playing for about five years straight for various reasons. I'm back into it now, and it is FRUSTRATING to go out there and shoot in the upper 80's. I originally thought that if something like that happened I wouldn't enjoy the game, but on the contrary, I'm really excited to work on my game and get it back up there. So that's that. I've been playing recently about three times a month at various courses in the Portland, Oregon area. It's wet.

to GR! Upper 80s doesn't seem too horrible after a 5 year layoff. Have fun, on the course, and here!

Welcome to Golf Rewind! Upper 80's after a 5 year layoff definitely doesn't seem bad at all. I actually got down to an 8 a few years ago but now, I only get to play for a few weeks a year with around 8 months in between. I know how you feel. Definitely tough to record scores around 90 after being able to break 80 occasionally in the past. The weird thing is, I actually find it more enjoyable now.

Hey

Shooting in the 80's is not so bad. Theres a lot of people out there that haven't shot under 100 yet. I'm sure you'll drop that score, its just a matter of getting that muscle memory back.

Good Luck.

Another Portlander! Welcome!!

And yes, it's still very wet . . . . I recently found that Camas Meadows drains surprisingly well though - maybe we can share tips on GC's (Heron Lakes is notoriously wet).

Actually, I just moved to Beaverton/Aloha/Hillsboro area. Other than a round at Ghost Creek last month, my Portland golf has been limited to the east side. Are there any go-to courses out here, i.e., bang for your buck, quick nine courses?

I'm a friend of the pro at Cedars in Vancouver, and he has said that they are draining really well for this time of year. That's a fun course. I haven't diversified myself much this year, so I'm not sure what's doing well and what's not.

There's a town called Aloha, Oregon? That's a popular word down in Hawaii. I'm sure some of my friends would be interested to learn that.

There are regional forums here where you can meet up with fellow golfers in the area and discuss local courses. You might want to check it out.
