Hi Everyone
my name is Wayne Fleury.
Twelve years ago I retired from my job in Canada. A year later I was offered a contract to come and work in Colombia South America. Most of the work was in the Cali Area.
Cali is situated in the Andes Mountains at 1000 meters or roughly 3000 feet.
At that time because of all the bad things that I had heard about Colombia made me feel very skeptical about coming here.
The person who offered me the contract told me to be sure and bring my golf clubs
. The first weekend I was here we played golf and let me tell you it was quit an experience. First of all I did not speak or understand a word of Spanish. Here in Colombia you have to use a caddy and they do not speak English. So there I was standing on the first tee surrounded by a bunch of people who I did not know or understand.
When I lived in Canada I used to play a minimum of 75 times a year. Well let me tell you, I felt more pressure that day on the first tee here than I had ever felt on a first tee back home. I hit the first drive way to the left and all I could here the caddy say was an expression that I got to learn quit quickly… Agua Senor Agua…. Water mister Water. After that first shot I loosened up and we had a great day, bad golf but a lot of fun.
The contract ran out after a year and a half. I liked so much here that I decided to stay. I try to play golf at least twice a week. The climate here is fantastic the people are great and the golf courses are unbelievable, (a lot of water and sand) but beautiful. The green Fees are roughly $15.00 US and the caddy is 5 Bucks or less.
In 1996 I married a Colombian Lady and we have a 10 year old daughter.
I am 64 years old and I could not imagine a better place to after retirement.
Whoa awesome, Welcome man, im originally from colombia. And you made a good choice staying there, while i dont like there anymore, i love it the courses are beautiful. What club are playing at?
Beautiful golf courses, great climate, gorgeous women, good Ballenatos………. I’m sure you’re having a good time. Looking forward to future postings and chats with you.
