First Time Picking Up Clubs

Hi my name is Franz, I'm 47 and picking up clubs for the very first time. I had bi-pass surgery 2 1/2 years ago and I want to be active in a sport which I felt I had a chance to be competitive in (at least with my self). Looking for pointers and the best way to start. Some of the advice I get is take lessons. How do you determine the best person to take lessons from?

Golf Digest ranks the pros in your area. The list should be on line...

Re: First Time Picking Up Clubs

Did you buy clubs yet? If you want to pick up a set for less than the cost of top-notch brand name stuff like Titleist or Callaway, check out The Best in Clone Golf Clubs, Components and Accessories - Diamond Tour Golf. They make quality clubs and you won't spend 25% of what I've put into my bag. If money's less of an issue, go to a pro shop and get fitted for a set of quality clubs...

Driver
3-wood
5-wood
hybrid 3 and 4 iron
5 iron to 9 iron (cavity back style)
Pitching, Gap, and Sand Wedges
Putter

A set of the latest model clubs in the make-up listed above will cost around $2000. A similar set from Diamond Tour or a similar company would probably cost $300 to $400.

Used clubs from e-Bay or the like would also suffice, but the local pro shop or Diamond's professional staff would be a big help matching you with the right set and shafts.
