I've been playing about 3 months now and I'm totally hooked. I just knew that would happen if I tried this crazy sport. We had a new golf course built about 6 years ago 3 miles from my house. I would drive past it almost every day. T
wo coworkers wanted to play golf for a team building exercise. They both have played for years. I played 9 holes with them and the rest is history. Too bad I didn't discover this sport earlier. I'm now 52 and have some catching up to do.
I've spent the last 7 years competing in Ironman Triathlons. I was getting pretty burned out on it so the timing to get into golf is just about right. I spent 20-25 hours a week training for triathlons so, putting in practice time for golf should be doable. So far I've been practicing or playing about 3 times a week. The weather has been nasty this past week (high winds) so it has limited the playing. Oh yeah, the main course that I play on is called Mallard Creek. It is a tough course with lots of natural hazards. Each hole is very different though and it is a beautiful course
Welcome Mike. I'm sure you'll enjoy your stay here. I'm not familiar with Mallard Creek, so I looked them up. Lebanon, huh? I'm just West of Portland, so that's why I've never heard of it, but there are great courses all over Oregon.
I didn't start playing golf until I moved to Oregon many years ago. I too got hooked by friends at work. I spread my addiction around to my two sons and a few friends.
Welcome to the board...from a simple "team building" exercise; no one ever thinks that this game is going to "turn them out" but then it gets into you...
Agreed, I work at a Title & Escrow company so seeing all the new subdivisions come through is pretty interesting. Have you ever played any courses up here?
Amazingly, Oregon appears to have quite a number of real nice courses. I'm looking forward to trying some of them out. We vacation in Sunriver quite a bit. There are some nice courses there which I'd like to try this summer.
I have not played any of the courses in the Tri-cities area yet. I'm sure I'll be dragging my clubs along for most visits to my family. In my short 3-4 month golf career, I've only had the chance to play at one other course other than the one near my home.
Well if you're ever up and want a playing partner, feel free to shoot me a message, I'm always up for playing with some people and while I'm no pro, I could help you out withe the courses we play at.
