Hello I've been a member for a few weeks but haven't had a chance to contribute yet. I retired to Portugal several monthly ago after having hip replacement surgery. Lovely country, nice people, great weather and exellent golf courses what more can I want. Also it is still quite a lot cheaper to live here than many other parts of the world. Golf plays a major part in my life so I am in probably in the right place for me at this time.

Where about in Portugal? Argarve, Lisbon, Sintra or Oporto? Please describe excellent courses. I have seen a great scenary here in Portugal but not many excellent greens. I miss fast greens.
I play mainly East Algarve courses and courses just into Spain. With the exception of my home course most of the courses have greens that are far quicker than those in the UK. The greens on the courses in the Vilamoura area have this year tended to be a little slower. I find Vale do Lobo, Vila Sol, Pinheiros Altos, Bella Vista (Huelva) and the new 2nd course at Costa Asuri (Ayamonte) comparable to other good courses in Europe. As I come from an area very near Snowdonia in Wales I must admit to not being blown away by the scenary. Any shortfalls in the courses is more than made up by being able to play virtually all year long. I think I have only been unable to play (rained off) 3 times in 18 months.

You asked for pictures......so I give you pictures. Here are some of the courses I've played in the Algarve in the last 12 months. I play in my clubs inter-league team so this has given me the opportunity to visit many fine courses.

Yeah...I'm not blown away by the scenery either...
Welcome to the site!!! Gorgeous courses there...I'm positively green!
Monte Re is pleasant and longish. Can only get around by buggy. Green to tee is too far. It was supposed to be a championship course but because you can't really walk it they will never have Pro tournaments there. Very overpriced I think the best deals with buggy is about €170 a round.
