New Golfer in West Texas

Hello all. Nice site you guys have here.
I am brand spankin new to the game. I played for the first time last weekend. I bought my own clubs this week and some buddies and I are heading to Lubbock to golf again this weekend.

Hope to get lots of good information from the seasoned golfers!! My swing is lacking all signs of quality and acceptable properties!

Whos in West Texas?

Hey nat...due south on the Pecos River. You know, we consider y'all North Tx although I suppose that's reserved for Dal/FW...OK you're a Panhandler...lol. I predict before it's over you'll get good at hardpan shots in the wind, one of the reasons many pros come from your area. I'll bet Nitby knows something about that as well. Give us a holler.

Welcome, nathank! There are several beginners on this site, so don't feel self-conscious about asking questions. Someone else probably has the same question, too. You'll get answers!

Hey, is it true what the band Little Feat sings (in "Them Feat'll Steer You Wrong Sometimes"): "Texas is a world all of its own"?

I was staring at myself in the mirrored sunglasses
Set on six foot five of Texas Ranger
He hollered turn down your radio son
I stuttered officer wha-what have I done?
You were doing better than a hundred and one
Why ya driving like the devil's on your tail?

I started pleading my case and getting no sympathy
I said I'm in the Feat... I'm travelin' from town to town
Don't you know my face
I'm on the radio most all the time
And I didn't realize I had the hammer down
So please don't haul me off to jail

When the Feats are on the box the speed just slips my mind
I start to sing along, tap my toe, slap the dash in time
The ranger laughed and said as he looked me in the eye
Son those Feat'll steer ya wrong sometimes

I was on my way to Puerto Rico on a 24 city run
They promised me the world that's what I got
'Cause Texas is a world all of its own
It takes a lifetime to drive from Eastland to Van Horn
He said didn't you hear my siren whine
I been chasing you since the Jim Hogg County line

I was thinking real hard about tenderin' my notice
But the bills came in and piled up to my chin
Paul called and said we're on our way to Rhome
This tour's gonna save your happy home

Now we're going to:
London, Liverpool, Italy, Paris, Egypt, Dublin, Frisco, Waco,
Athens, Gouldbusk, Troy, and Miami, Moody, Beaumont, Edinburgh, Lubbock
Pecos, Deadwood, Fife, del Rio,
Houston, Austin, all around Dallas
Texas is a world all of its own

'N if you let me off this time
From now on I'll keep in mind
That those Feat'll steer you wrong sometimes
When the Feats are on the box the speed just slips my mind

I start to sing along, tap my toe, slap the dash in time
But the ranger said to me as he handed me the fine
Son those Feat done steered ya wrong this time
Those Feat'll steer ya wrong sometimes

Thumbs up Texas ROCKS!!!!

Nathank,
Welcome!!! I lived in Dallas/Ft. Worth for a little over a year and can't wait to return. You've found, hands-down, the best Golf Forum on the net and, in my humble opinion, the ONLY Golf Forum on the net. Bring your friends!!!! You won't regret it.
I'll look you up when I visit HOME.
Mike

Thanks for the lyrics, shade; I love that song. Wish the Feat woulda played it when I saw them last summer. Have it on cassette, though. And it's playing in my head right now.

We'll be playing the new Rawls course. The course was built in 2003. It is the Texas Tech University course.

I am actually in the Odessa / Midland area. We are traveling up to Lubbock to play this weekend. But you are correct, I haven't played a day yet that hasn't been windy as all get out.
