I'm 16 (almost 17) and last year I won the Junior Club Championship at my local golf course (which should really be invalid because I had a 36 handicap lol). I won a Ping Anser 2 putter, and I've never been happier. I have a Callaway Forged wedge, 54 degrees, with a Vintage finish. I also have a Nike stand bag with a Pepsi Cola logo on it. Other than that, however, I can't really brag about my clubs.
I'm a 27 handicap now, and I'm working really hard to bring it down. My short game (in my opinion) is pretty good, but my real problem is driving and ball striking (I can't get enough distance). I've been trying to work on maintaining balance throughout my swing, and that's probably what's gonna bring my handicap down into the teens, and eventually, single digits.
I got high hopes for my game, dreaming for the low scores.
Welcome to Golf Rewind, Greg! Great to have you here! We have lots of people here at different stages in their game; you should be able to get some help (or at least some advice!) from some of our more experienced members.
I was about your age when I started getting serious about golf. I hit driver about 250 at the time and wanted more distance, of course. Now that I'm a lot older and can hit driver only about 230 (if I really connect), I've learned how important accuracy is. It's natural for golfers to want more distance (as golf club and golf ball manufacturers know!), but don't overlook the great effect that two consecutive accurate shots can have on your score.
Anyway, best wishes for your continued improvement. We look forward to hearing more from you.
Hope you can get your scores down! I also hope you enjoy your time here as much as I have. If you were a 36 handicap i assume you played net score? Or whatever it is when you take your handicap off of what you shoot.
Welcome to Golf Rewind. Something to try to gain more distance is to relax your forearms, hands, and shoulders and let the club swing freely. In golf, lightening up is the answer; tightening up is the problem. The "harder" you try, the worse things get.

Yep, exactly. I play a Par-61 course, and I shot 100 each day in the 2-round tournament. All I needed was 100, 39 over par! How sad is that? Lol, but I've really improved my game this season.
Hey Greg,
I too am a Former Junior Club Champion. I'm 18 (soon to be 19) with a 7 handicap. Congrats, on your victory. I won the Jr. Championship for the first time when I was 10, again when I was 12 and got Runner Up when I was 15. Good luck working on your game I'm sure you'll get much better. From practicing constantly my handicap went down from a 14 starting the year off to a 7. Its the 2nd year in a row that I have dropped 7 shots and I hope to make it more. With a consistent regiment and practicing with purpose, not just beating balls, I'm sure you will be a very good player in years to come.
