What do you think of these irons? I just demoed them today and I hit them great. I'm now seriously contemplating a purchase this weekend. Just seeing what other people think of these irons.
I don't have much of a frame of reference as these are my first irons and all I have played with for any length of time (apart from a bunch of Pings I borrowed for a while), but I'm very pleased with them, very forgiving. I tried most the big names in the shop (Callaway, Ping, Taylormade) before I settled on these, also VERY well priced, now available in the UK for £250 or thereabouts 3-SW compared to £330 I paid when I got them last autumn.
I got these irons about 2 weeks ago, very happy with them. They feel very solid, have an over sized sole which is good for the average player like myself. The longer irons really have a meaty feel to them, I am quite happy with them. I got the 3-sw for $450 shipped.
I tried the MX-17's and seriously considered getting these but wound up springing the extra $200 for the MX-23's. The 17's hit great, but I got hooked on the buttery feeling of hitting a forged iron on the sweet spot. If you're limited on funds, then get the MX-17's, but if you can manage another couple of C-nots, then get the MX-23's. However, you won't regret either choice.
We are in process of looking for a set of good irons (hopefully under $500) for my 16 yr old son. He's been taking lessons thru GolfTec, and has an awesome instructor. The man works very well with kids.
Both of us have been playing the game off and on for a couple of years, and lately have been playing quite a bit. At least once a week the last few months.
His dream irons are Mizuno blades like MP32's or 60's. While he is getting better, he is not ready for them quite yet. He's got a long way to go. So we are looking at the MX-17's. We checked out the MX-23's, but we are on a tight budget, and $500 is all I can handle right now.
The kid has been playing with a set of old Nickent's with graphite shafts. Got them cheap as demo's about 5 yrs ago. His instructor told us he is way beyond this club (the graphite shafts are worn out) and would do much better with a steel with a stiff shaft.
Scorelow.com, free shipping. Got the sand wedge for $50. You got the benefit of going in and getting fitted though, even if they didn't change anything.

And they didn't charge us for the fitting. That was cool.
I've taken up a summer job just to buy some mizuno mx-17s or 23s at the moment. I've tried both clubs and the 17s felt a little softer to me, but I may not have gotten the 23s on the sweet spot (yeah I have a really inconsistent swing .) Glad to hear your son is excited, so when will he surpass you in golf? J/k.

He already has. Not j/k..
Seriously though.. these clubs should help him get in the groove.
I really believe his old clubs are holding him back.
They are late 90's graphite Nickent Greathawk's.
Got them from the bargain bin... ie, the demo barrel.
The graphite has too much flex.
Still good clubs but they are not for him.
