Ive heard of them doing this, but I also know retailers who will get around this...I know a retailer that will remain nameless, and he sold a friend of mine a ping g2 driver, for the lowest ping would let him, then gave him a dozen pro v 1 balls for free...My friend returned the pro v1 balls for cash back...he got the discount without "getting" the discount.......or he could have kept the balls...either or!

That's a good idea. We gave away range balls with purchases this year.
I have always played Ping for the last 20+ years, and I was about to purchase some new G5 irons. I went to one of those Ping fitting days they have at the local golf store and was fitted and ready to buy. My teaching pro was going to order them for me at a reduced cost, but he wanted me to try some clubs first. He gave me a Taylor Made, Callaway and Nike Slingshot (OSS and Tour) 6 iron. I played 9 holes of golf and used each one of them at 160 to 170 yards out and I was sold on the Nike Tour Slingshot. I suggest you try them you might like them.
I know MCDavis already bought some irons, but I thought I would give some feedback. These irons are nice. They would be good for players that want higher ball flight. The irons aren't particularly long, gaining probably less than 10 yards per club over my wal*mart specials. I find the PW is great for pitch and runs around the green. My first day out with these clubs I had a difficult chip, big break, and not much green to work with. Was just trying to get it close to be able to make my putt, and ended up putting it in. Before this I never really tried the bumb and run because I loved taking my SW and trying flop shots, now if I am near the green I will only use my PW. I was also surprised that I could open the face on these clubs and still hit them solidly. I would have thought that because of the wide sole, it would cause a thin shot. The irons are also extremely forgiving, sending a fat shot that should have only went 10 yards, out to only a loss of about 10 yards.
I have the 8, 9, and PW in G5. I've always been a fan of Ping products...initially they were the only one's out there that had a fitting system and I just could not play off the rack clubs.
I like the way they set up, their forgiveness, and ease of getting the ball in the air.
I was fit on 8/14 for a new set of G5's and I must say I love how solid they feel when you hit the ball!! I ended up with Green Dot standard length, I was hitting the ball 155-160 with the 6 iron, swing speed was avg 77-80. I haven't really played much over the past 7 years, just 36 holes, I will work back up to where I was before I took a break.
If you are looking for irons def give the G5 a look!
