Re: Wilson Forged Blades Irons Review

I love my Wilson Forged Blades. I play 1964 Dyanapower's, 1981 Tour Blades and 1994 Progressives. I have owned 1966 Dynapowers and 2 sets of 1986 Tour Blades. They are great to play and have great feel.

I have a set of the "Collector's Edition" 1965 DynaPowers. I don't play them though. I just use them on the range. I play a set of the 2001 R. Mendralla irons, as pictured in my avatar.

Re: Wilson Forged Blades Irons Review

Does Wilson make forged blade irons anymore? I have an mid-80s remake of the "button backs" that are sweet, but I thought that Wilson stopped making forged clubs about 5 years ago...

Re: Wilson Forged Blades Irons Review

I currently play 1989 Staff Blades and 1967 Dyna-Power sets. I would put the quality and workmanship of these vintage forge irons up there with any of the modern forge clubs currently on the market.

I own these irons now. Been playing them for a couple of months. I am having more fun than I've had in years.

It took some getting used to since I've played cavity backs for the last decade plus. Once I got used to how forged irons play, including clubbing up one because of the higher lofts on old irons, I am playing better with these irons than I did with any "game improvement" irons I've owned. Take that cheater sticks!!

It's true . . . forged blades are the best.

Re: Wilson Forged Blades Irons Review

I bought a set of FG-51's and RM cavity backs earlier this spring.
I agree with Billybogey. I'm hitting my FG's much better than I did my game improvement irons. I haven't even played with the RM's yet because I've been so happy with the FG's. Just yesterday I hit my 4 iron 180 dead straight to about 10 feet short of the hole. I don't think I hit my game improvement 4 that straight or far ever. Mostly, I think, because it was so hard to align the things with the target properly with any sort of trust. My eye just hated the offset. I look at most Callaways and wonder what part of the garden it's used in.
With the fact that you can get a used set so cheap on Ebay, I would reccomend to anyone with a decently grooved swing to pick up a set just to practice with if nothing else. Then maybe they would get over the intimidation factor and quit believing the hype that the club companies play up.
