Are all you couch potatoes ready?

“Midnight Dec 31, 2006 Congress targeted a decade ago for the end of analog television broadcasting and a full cutover to a digital format.” Or will they allow the date to pass with out enacting the mandate the passed. If so there will be more than 70 million TV sets go dark at that hour, below is a link to the full story very interesting article. If Congress enforces the cut off date will it affect you?. For those of us that have satellite or cable it will not affect us, should be interesting to see what happens as the date gets closer.

Wow, what were they thinking? I wonder just how many folks that would really effect though? The only people I know without cable/sat. is my grandparent is rural north Alabama...I still be the number is large though...That's crazy, I wonder what Congress is thinking about this now. I can see them wanting to make the leap into a fully digital world, but cutting of folk's tv's, come on...

I didn't open the link, but If I remember correctly, that decision is based primarily on bandwidth. Digital TV signals take up a fraction of the bandwidth that analog uses.

Technology changes like this are more difficult for senior citizens, but the % of houselholds without cable or sat must be very small.

I made the switch to digital last year when I bought an HDTV. The converter box was $400, but they have come down in price since then. It's the only way to watch events like the Masters.

Well since I have cable and always have had cable, it's not that big of a deal really. When I graduate, I'll worry about getting one of those fancy HDTVs later on after I make good money. $1500 for a 27 inch T.V. is still way too high for a t.v. in my book.
