Bernie, and the rest of us, find out tomorrow

I was watching the news earlier and it appears that the judge presiding over Bernie Ebbers' trial has rejected his attorney's request for an appeal and that he will be sentenced tomorrow. Looks like tomorrow will be the end to a VERY LONG saga.

Thoughts?

Well at least they found Bernie Ebbers' guilty unlike the 5 plus month long trial of Richard Scrushy here in Alabama jury finds him not guilty on all counts of fraud and inflating the books to make HealthSouth look better to it's investors and gets off free acquitted on all charges.

No, not at all Stlcard. Bernie Ebbers was the president and CEO of WorldCom, a huge Telecommunications company that went bankrupt back in June of 2002. An internal auditor by the name of Cynthia Cooper found out that the company had been mis-reporting revenue, to the tune of $11 Billion dollars before it was all over. Bernie, and several of the company executives, to include Scott Sullivan (CFO) and David Myers (Controller), and others, were charged with several counts of Securities Fraud and Fraud related crimes.

Bernie took the position the he was just a good ole country boy and knew nothing about the fraud, but the Jury did not buy it. He was convicted on several of his charges, and today, could be sentenced from 10 to 25, or more, years in prison.

The company, known as MCI now, has emerged from bankruptcy and is now in the process of being bought by Verizon.

And as Paul Harvey would say......

If the trial had been elsewhere than Birmingham I think he would have been found guilty, he just has way too much influence in and around the Birmingham area. There are some here that think the man can do no worng.
