I have shaved my head for the first time. My mother starts chemotherapy this week and I'll be traveling to see her and to play some golf in Montana and Spokane. Since she will be losing her hair, I thougth I'd do the same to help her out. I kind of like the feeling and no maintenance. Will probably keep it a little longer than it is now but it feels good.
All the best to your mother and family!!! I have a friend here at work who is going through chemo and radiation of his neck (found a lump there a couple of months ago)...and it's just so sad to hear of what he's going through and hope your mother's treatments and pain go better for her.
He has to have a feeding tube, they have to stop the radiation for about a week at a time in order for him to recover since the lining of his throat is burning away and it's hard for him to swallow and breathe. May God be with your Mom as well as my friend Tom!!!
I'm sure that your mother will feel a lot better after seeing your bald head! Just don't forget to wear a hat when you go outside, or that tender scalp of yours will burn to a crisp and mom will wonder where the red head came from!
May all go well with her treatment and growing back her hair.

That's a cute idea! My head was shaved before my mom went for her's, but she would have cracked up I'm sure.
Very thoughtfull of you.
I have to use a razor every other morning or so. Does anyone else have any other "secrets" to keeping it close?
Sorry to hear of the circumstances which made you shave your head.
I also shaved mine several years ago, but fortunately, it was for fun. I was coaching a youth hockey team, and we had about four games to go in the season. I reminded them that if they won out, it would put us two games over .500, and give us home ice in the first playoff game. I then boldly proclaimed I would shave my head if they accomplished this. I knew we had to play the first-place team twice in those four games, and didn't really think I'd have to back it up. Well, that team's best player missed those two games, and we ended up winning all four, and, well, you know the rest of the story. I've kept it shaved for the better part of three years now, although I have grown it back twice before buzzing it all off again.
PS... Like the post above said; use a hat or sunscreen on the course!
I always shave my head. It started when I was playing football and basketball in high school. It was a lot more comfortable under the helmet for football and a lot less warm playing bball. Now I shave during the summer. Fortunately my wife likes the look.
As for tips on keeping it closely cropped, I don't really have any. Definitely do it after a shower since the warm water helps soften everything. Other than that, go carefully. Head wounds bleed really well.
Sorry to read about your mom that has got to be one of the toughest things to go thought my prayers are with her for a speedy recovery.
On the other side of shaved head never shaved completely but had to keep a very close hair cut in my earlier career which has carried over to my older days I guess old habits die hard just like removing your cover when inside.
Sorry to hear about your Mom. My dad is battling it right now himself. Was just over in Spokane and visited my folks last week. If you are going to play in the Spokane area, I played the Creek at Qualchan and it was in incredible shape. Old Works in Anaconda MT, and Circling Raven just below CDA are also courses you might want to check out. Hope your Mom turns out OK. Dad is 87 and isn't looking too good.

DSTROUD AND KEITH,
Sorry to hear, and i think it is a very fine idea for you to do that as a show of support. I have never shaved mine but i do wear pretty much a buzz-cut anyway.
no guard, just clippers very much reminisant of the boot camp days, i don't know as i would ever shave mine, but ask your mom, i will if she wants me too and i will post a pic. After all, mama boomer is going over for 6 months so there won't be much laughing from her. After all, there are so few of us white guys that can really pull that off.......
Thanks again, everyone. Just popped in at work today to get some mail. Getting ready to head up to Whitefish, MT tomorrow. Will see my mom then. Also, I have a Monday tee time at Buffalo Hill and Tueday tee time at Whitefish Lake North. Head into Spokane later and hit Indian Canyon. Off for a week or so.
