DVD problems
I have three DVD players and often can't watch the DVD's I rent. I have a DVD drive in my almost 5 year old PC that is incompatible with XP, I have a PS2 that can only play some DVD's, and a have a HTIB system that is extremely flakey and usually can only play part of the movie.
I'm trying to watch Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy now. I got through a little over an hour then the flakes started jamming the player and it completely shut down. So, I tried my PS2 and it wouldn't play this one at all.
I've got ice packs on my HITB player now hoping it was just overheating hehe. I used to play movies with the ice packs on...seemed to help.
It's about a 50/50 chance that this player will get past the part of the disk about 2/3 of the way even when everything seems to be working fine.
I bought my parents a HTIB system two Christmas's ago and bought one for myself when I got back home. Their's works great...I paid more for mine and it doesn't work as well.
Oh well, I guess I'll see if it feels like playing now...

Out of curiosity, what's an HTIB system? Personally, I've never had trouble playing DVD's except for region coding.

Well, it's about 10 hours later and I haven't been able to watch the rest of the movie. I couldn't get the player to even load the DVD at all after it stopped at a little over an hour of the movie.
It sounds like an overheating problem to me since it could load the DVD in the morning after being off overnight.
It's a GPX HTIB system. I think it's great otherwise. I use the speakers for TV. It's just the DVD drive that has problems sometimes. My parents have the same system and it always works fine.
I tried different things today including leaving it off for a while. Oh well, I have a few days left to watch the rest hehe.
I'll get a new system when I get a new TV (HD), but that probably won't be soon.

I've never had a problem playing any DVD. Now, if we start talking about my DVD recorder and the problems I've had with the darn thing just refusing to respond to any of the controls at all, that's another story. I finally went to the manufacturer's website and found that there was a sequence of buttons to push to reset the entire system. Yippee!
