has not complained once since I brought her home as a young pup. She generally gets the same food everyday along with just plain water to drink. she has never said, could i have a cold one or a pepsi or a coke or lemonade or anything of the sort. she's getting older and again, not one complaint of joint pain or poor eyesight or hearing.
she generally sleeps outside and not once mind you has she requested a new bed or living space. she does not watch tv or listen to the radio nor does she require an mp-3 player or dvd or vcr or a computer or a phone to talk to her friends down the road.
yup, what a great and faithful dog I have. she does deserve so much more. maybe I'll give her a good ole raw T-bone to munch on this weekend as a treat.
Give her a treat for me too . . . Dotti will get something good this weekend as well.
As we've watched the aftermath of the hurricane unfold, I can't even imagine the horrific prospects of having to make a decision to leave a pet behind or not be rescued.

I know that I could never leave my Darling Dixie behind. Unfortunately, many people refuse to evacuate because hotels/motel will not accept animals. I'm sure that many people would be willing to pay a pet deposit at such locations to cover any damages caused by their pets. I spoke to a couple who rode the storm out in their car on the highway because they could not find a place that would accept their pets. I was talking to a man at the grocery store who broke down crying in my arms as he told me how he found his beloved dogs drowned in his house.
At 13 yrs old, my Dixie has been a Katrina trooper. She no longer has a backyard to run around in because our fence is down. She has to go out in her own yard on a leash. She endured the suffocating heat for the 10 days we were out of power. I hosed her down several times a day to keep her cool for which she was so grateful. One of the first things I bought, when I was able to find an open store, was a new flashing ball for her to play with. She is ever faithful in following me from room to room to keep me company, which I cherish.
Where's a picture? We would rather see pictures of your beautiful dog than that mutt you married all those years ago. My daughter has spent the summer working in a kennels with rescue dogs. Each day we body searched her for any little lost soldier she would rescue. I even went to see one shepherd cross she begged us to take. Unfortunately, since my wife changed career and graduated from college as an occupatioanl therapist, we are out of the house too much to give a dog the home they deserve. We had a black lab ,but have not replaced him since he 'moved on'. I still miss him.
Dogs are the best idea God ever had,if only he had made people to the same high standard.

My thoughts and prayers go out to survivors, human and animals, of Katrina's destruction.
On the subject of dogs, I'd like to tell you about my little minpin coco. She's a ten pound terrorist (just kidding). She really is a member of the family and has been for eight years. And believe it or not, she has helped me with my golf game. She LOVES golf, at least her version of it. Our game is played in the living room where I chip golf balls. When we first begin she tries to steal the golf ball, but usually ends us playing goalie on the other end of the room. She's small enough that the golf balls can't be swallowed by her. She doesn't bother with the golf balls any other time. It's so funny. Our little golf sessions have become an enjoyable way to practice chipping and play with the dog at the same time. I wouldn't recommend this for dogs larger that she is however.
btw, my dog is a black lab. caddie is her name. wouldn't have any other. i think she would go home with the UPS guy if he would take her, she's that friendly, lol. (just like her master, )
Yes, she is. Click on this link: Jack Russell Terriers there are thousands of owner photographs (in the gallery link) and much information on these great little friends to humanity.

stagday
You mean you would go home with the UPS guy if he would take you?
This is Buster...half Pit, half Rhodesian Ridgeback (lion hunters). He died a few years ago from ehrlichia (tick disease)...one bad tick is all it takes...watch your dog's gums, if they are pale or grey and he gets off his feed and starts drinking a lot of water those are the early signs. Losin' Buster was very hard for me so I haven't gotten another child yet. Maybe someday. Sure miss him.
Stagday, my black lab thought there was no such thing as strangers only friends he had not yet met. Best friends were sources of food. When we had a new kitchen fitted, the fitter asked me if we wanted a waste disposal unit, we said no we have a lab.
You can see my best buddy in my Avatar, Ike a Boston terrier he just turned 10 years old had him since he was 8 weeks. He is a great friend waits for me every evening to get home, when I drive up and open the car door he comes up to the car and rolls his upper lip up in what I call his special little smile.
Nice thread. My wife isn't the maniac jealous type, but she realized very early in the marriage that the dog was competition. I spoil every dog I come in contact with. My Father-In-Law is angry with me because he thinks I've stolen his loyal dog from him.
And my neighbor tells me his Mastiff must wonder why his "master" lives next door. But that is one "horse" that I cannot afford to feed. <well, not everyday.......>
