Anticipation = Results?

Have you ever "looked forward" to an upcoming round because you've been hitting it so well?
What were the results?
Other sports, I've been able to carry that positive vibe over into the "event".
But golf is so darn fickle. Brings you back to reality on the first hole more times than not.

But, I've been striking the ball well and putting well in my practice, and I'm playing one of my "home" courses for this week's tournament.
I'm tied for first with Oct/Nov/Dec course selections all in my neighborhood.
<big neighborhood when you live "between" Tijuana and Carlsbad CA.

Just wondering about others. Seems like my best rounds have come when I have felt the worse, as well as some friends who were "drop dead" sick and shot lights out! Something to do with "swinging controlled" during those times.
Maybe I should just go out and party all nite first?

In my case, the rounds I look forward to the most are almost always my worst. I tend to get overanxious and want to do well so badly that I force it early and it costs me bigtime. I had my best score of the year when I told someone on MSN beforehand that I was dreading going to the course because I was hitting it so poorly. But then again, I also had a nice stretch where everything went consistently right and I felt great coming to the course, so I won't complain about that either.

Same thing seems to happen to me. Anticipation must produce a little extra adrenalin or something. I've gone out and gotten loose...played lousy. I've gone out old stone cold ..maybe a few putts and hit it pure. I don't get it. Gotta love this game.

Forgot to update this thread. But in case anyone was interested, I actually played as well as I felt that day. Felt confident over my irons, putts, and off the tee with my 3 wood, but driver cost me a couple of times off the tee.

Good job.

Yeah I think the normal relationship is Results go down as Anticipation goes up. Sadly for most of us.

Results went down as Anticipation went up

after scoring a 52 (front nine) few days ago, i was hoping for a record 49 or less...got 68 (front nine) from from several wild OB long drives. then i switched to 3-wood and got more OBs. I finally swung smoothly, easier, and drove a 250 yarder, straight, but by then game's over. i was pleased with my mid and short iron plays, however.

why oh why do we insist on using the driver when the 3W would suffice?
