Help - Soft Diet

Help, Help, man I can't believe this...I love FOOD, really love it and my stomach shows, well, not that bad....more beer than anything I guess. Well here's my dilemma...my jaw was out of align and now it's back, surmise it was my little 2 year old's sudden thrust of her head into Daddy's jaw that caused it a while back and had been experincing pain chewing from time to time...low and behold finally after procrastination and now a grinding of the jaw near the right ear I go ahead and see our dentist yesterday.

She confirms that it was knocked out of alignment and now it appears to be back in aligment, however there's some swelling there and not sure if a disk problem too, states 1-2 weeks of soft diet!!! OUCH! Also ibuprofin to reduce the swelling and yes, rest those jaw muscles...

Okay, here's what I have in mind, grilled cheese sandwiches...soups (not a big soup lover)...canned fruits, jello, pudding, pasta's of sorts...perhaps meatloaf and maybe some stew.

Can you help me out here....I'm a steak and potato man, love my hoagies and pizza too, I do eat good food though as well so don't get the wrong idea....any thoughts on this?

Yes, I agree, however, it has a short coming of sorts (gut feeling), now I do agree with some of the merits of it, but I do need to work in some other things...LOL.

For soups, get the Wolfgang Puck kind in the red can. They taste a lot better than Progresso or any other canned soup. You can eat mashed potatoes, don't know what to do with the steak, though.

There are a lot of pasta dishes that might work. Mashed potatos etc. should work too. As far as meat goes the real deal is out but ground beef I would think would work.

Last night the wife made sloppy Joes and it wasn't a problem, I guess that makes Hamburger Helper a meal idea then.

Breakfasts: Scrambled eggs (actually pretty much any eggs), pancakes, oatmeal, cereal (milk will help, if you like it like that. I know my brother hates milk with his cereal), soft fruits (aka. fruits that aren't crunchy; apples, for example)

Lunches: Soups (I'm a fan of Campbell's cream of Tomato soup), grilled cheese, egg/tuna/chicken salad sandwich, soft fruits, yogurt, and so on

Dinners: Pasta, mashed potatoes, vegetables (steamed or boiled to soften them up), tomatoes in any form that you'd like (I didn't include them as 'vegetables' because, as we all should know, tomatoes are fruits), rice, sloppy joes, meat pie, other stuff I can't think of right now

Desserts: Ice cream, any type of cream pie you'd like, cake, fruit salad, Jello, pudding

And I'd say lay off the beer, for no other reason than to help keep down the beer belly while you're dieting like this. When you come out of this with your jaw all better again, I think you'd like to be a few pounds lighter as well just as an added bonus.

Also remember, drink lots of water, and (barring lactose intolerancy) milk to keep your bones and teeth strong. I'm no doctor, but that'll probably help your jaw heal and then some, faster.

Wolfgang in the organinc section? Hmmm...I just find it next to the other cans of soup (Campbell's, Cup-O-Noodles, etc...) I like the minestrone and chicken noodle.

Another soft meal is this. Cube some chicken tenders and fry them in olive oil with a bit of cooking wine. I also add some cajun seasoning, but you can add whatever you prefer. I then blend a can of condensed campbell's mushroom soup - I hate eating mushrooms, so I pretty much puree them. Pour the condensed soup over the chicken and let it cook slowly for about one episode of whatever's on the TV. We eat this over white rice and a side of steamed broccolli(sp?). It's pretty soft and my kid likes it.

You can survive on Guinness, a good source of iron and not as high in calories as one may think

Greg -- great ideas you're listed -- the egg/tuna/chicken salad sandwiches I like...ice creams too. Know what you mean about over indulging on the brew, I can see where it would be too easy to just have a few more to fool the stomach, you know -- bloating -- drinking lots of water is a great idea there. It not only will help in filling my stomach, but cleanse as well.

Thanks for your thoughts on this, any more ideas...send them...

eggs, or fake eggs + cream of Wheat(or oatmeal) for breakfast.

Meatloaf, using ground turkey and salsa for lunch.

Instant mashed taters, Spaghetti O's, Mac-n-cheese, etc for dinner. OK not to healthy, but soft.

ANother option for dinner, or snacks. Might a little effort, but go to GNC, or whereever, and pick up a container of protein powder. If you find one with no carbs, add a banana, mix it in the blender, and they are pretty satisfying. Ask the person working there which chocolate powders taste good, according to their customers.

I have one, not sure how widely it is distributed - Maximum Protein. Also, vcould go with a meal replacement shake.
