#1. Make sure she wants to learn how to play the cello.

#2. Double check #1 just before you purchase the cello. Women have been known to change their minds!

Let us know how it turns out, because I think it will take a true master of disguise to sneak a cello into the house under your coat....

You should put it in the corner and cover it with tinsel, christmas lights and ornaments, then throw a few presents under it and she'll never know it's there.

hide it in the rear cab of my pickup

funny.

i was going to hide it in the rear cab of my pickup, in my drive way until "show time"

this is my benchmark to compare other cellos to (not that i'd know anything about it), that i'll likely get: $1700 Jay Haide locally handmade "JH" cello from www.ifshinviolins.com with a BAM Hi Tec cello case $850? and $250 cello bow.

so she'll have once more thing to do when she's not with me at the golf course or range. she's already good at playing piano

"Is that a cello in your pocket, or are you just glad to see me?"

Try calling the local high schools or colleges and ask their music director what is/isn't a good instrument. They might even be able to steer you toward someone who gives lessons.

Hang it in the rear window of your pickup on the gun rack...then drive thru the desert country and watch all the curious stares you get...if someone asks, tell them you are a bad shot, and "can't hit a bull in the butt with a bass fiddle"....

i'd hang one of my own rifles on the rear window if that wouldn't attrack vandal from "low income" housing projects from five blocks away..and would be an "advertisment" for local young thieves to bulgarize my house for my good rifle (LRB action, SEI moded...for those who know what that is )

I had a good friend who had had some UPS packages stolen from his front porch when he wasn't at home. He got a bright idea...went around the neighborhood and collected some fresh "doggie leavings" from the neighbors' front yards, put it in a zip lock bag, and boxed it up and addressed it to himself and left it on the front porch. When he got home, of course it was gone. I would have given ten bucks to have seen the look on the idiot's face who stole it when he opened the box.
