Yes folks, I can freely and shamelessly admit it to all -- I'm a "Jumper"
I have acquired my very first jump (aka flash) drive - a SONY MicroVault USM-512-E. As the model no. implies, it's a 512-MB drive.
A nice touch by SONY, providing downloadable drivers for Windows-98, 1st and 2nd editions - my computer at work is WIN-98 1st Ed, my computer at home is WIN-XP.
The drive has special compress/decompress software that allows for up to 3 times more storage capacity (1.5 gigs), but I have chosen not to take advantage of that right away.
Bought the drive at Staples for $44.95, and I'll get a mail-in rebate of $15.00.
I bought my first pen drive nearly 4 years ago - a 64 meg. I was getting my degree in Computer Graphics and Design, and HATED the zip drives, so I splurged and paid about $75 for the little wonder! Six months later, I bought a 256 meg for about the same price.
Since then I have had several brands, but my favorites are the Lexar Jump Drives. I have a 1gig and a 512meg. After rebates the 1gig cost about $60, the 512meg about $35. As a web developer and computer tech, I find them indispensable. I keep several PC utility programs and handy files on the 512 for when I go to help someone fix their PC. The 1 gig is great for transporting lots of photos, graphics, PowerPoints, videos, etc. Once you start using one, you wonder how you do without it!
They have some now that contain an Linux operating system, email, etc. You can plug it in, boot up the computer from it, and have your own desktop, a few programs, etc. Pretty cool!
I have two of them. I have one that's 512 that I put mp3's on, and have a thing I can plug into the ciggarete lighter in the car, tune into a radio station, and it plays my mp3's over my car radio. I also have a 2 gig one that I bought about three months ago, and I've never even used it.
I can't live without mine, it's 256MB and I'm seriously considering getting a 1MB one...I do quite a bit of sharing of information between my work PC and my home Laptop, used to use the Zip Drives which did a good enough job, but since the Flash was created, there's nothing to compare to the ease and speed.

I have one of those MP3/FM transmitters as well, but can't use it in my truck. When I plug it into the lighter socket and then put in the jump drive, My gear shift hits it every time I go into 3rd! There's an alternate location for a cigarete lighter higher up on the dash, so I'm going to install one there, but till then the radio is all I have!
