Sky Diving

I have a chance to go sky diving. A close friend of mine has 50 jumps in at Freefall Express in Mt Vernon, Mo. He can get me in for 150.00. All I have to do is sit thru a 6 hour class so I can jump tandem. Have any of you done this before? I want to do it. I have always had a fear of heights. This would be a great way for me to conquer my fear. Plus it sounds like a load of fun.

There's a place you can do it on I-44 going towards St. Louis. I can't remember what it cost, but that price sounds close. You take the class, and then you do the jump and they video tape it. I've never done it though.

Never done it, never want to do it. Don't really like heights. The closest i would EVER come to that would be Paragliding, they offer it at a nearby mountain. (It's cool to watch, they jump off the peak, float around for a couple hours, then come down in a nearby park.)

I'm not a fan of heights either, but once you take that first step.....the hieght is no longer a problem. Its the landing........ actually i have over 400 jumps and loved it. I haven't been in almost 5 years but if you concentrate on the veiw and get over the initial fear of falling....its a blast.
of course my first jump and most of the rest were not recreational at all....

This is something I'd love to do someday. I've hanglided and flown a glider... neither solo.

I have jumped a lot....all Army stuff. You will get over your fear fast because once your out of the plane you have no choice.....at that piont all you can do is enjoy the view and get ready to land. Once your chute is open you will be surprised how quiet it is up there.

There would have to be other ways for me to conquer my fear of heights! The closest thing I've done is get on the Doctor Doom's Fearfall at Universal Studios. I can honestly say that the only way I could jump out of a perfectly good airplane or leap off of a cliff would to be rendered unconscious before hand. I get cold sweats watching movies where people have to cross those swaying, rickety rope bridges with the boards missing to save their lives.

And remember how I well I handled that ride Mom? I think I was screaming "Mommy!" and crying the entire time. And yes, I'm an adult. I'm terrified of heights and falling.

I WILL NEVER, EVER, DO ANYTHING LIKE THAT AGAIN! NOT FOR ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD WOULD I DO THAT.

I called my dad after my first jump and he told me

"son, WELL people jump from sick planes. And sick people jump from well planes"

he spent 29 years in the Air Force and jumped from only one plane, and it was on the ground.....

Prying my claws off the hatch frame would be the first problem. Once you sever my hands and shove me out of the plane (you better be wearing a chute too because hands or not, WE WILL be physically attached. Quiet up there my !!! I'll be screaming like you've never heard screaming until my lips are puckered and firmly planted on terra firma!

That's assuming that my chute opened and I floated down. In the event my chute doesn't open......just keep an eye to the sky. You'll see the most graceful and perfect swan dive you ever saw. There's something to be said about going out with style!

The first jump is awesome. I did 3 tandems and have 4 for assisted freefalls to date. The fear of heights shouldn't be an issue. When you look out of the plane it is so surreal that you cannot believe it is reality.

I am surprised at the lenght of the class for a tandem jump. My first tandem, I showed up and 20 minutes later was enjoying my 50 second freefall fom a little over 13k feet.

Words can not describe it. You will get hooked. Once you get your license, it costs between 9 and 22 bux to manifest.

Good luck and enjoy the fun.

re

I really want to do. I am a big guy 6'1" 235 lbs. I hope the guy I am jumping tandem with is bigger than me. That way when I freeze up he forces me out of the door.

Billy , my sky diving friend, told me that there are claw marks on the wing where people had second guessed themselves one moment to late. I guess you have to hold on to the wing for a fraction of a second.

In that case Billy better issue me roller blades with that chute cuz I'll still be hangin' from that wing when he lands the plane!
