Red Sliders

...does anyone remember the small , green turtles that were available as pets when you were young. They had red ears , and were called "red sliders". I have one bigger than a dinner plate. I don't know how old he is , I found him crawling down my street 2 years ago. I'll probably let him loose in some woods that have a lake or pond soon.

I had a couple 50 or so years ago as a kid. The government outlawed them being sold as pets after several children died from salmonella infection. ALL turtles, reptiles and birds have salmonella in their digestive tracts. That's a pretty big one you have. I see them here in south Florida in the lakes. Maybe you can find a nice pond to let the big guy go in.

We've got 2 or 3 hundred of the little buggers in the pond behind our house, along with all the snappers, softshells, etc.
