What does everyone think about this? I can't believe NBA talk has dominated so much sports coverage in July. It's been really tough for me to get excited about the NBA with the Lakers dominance. Sure, the Spurs won last year but they don't really excite me much. Watching the Pistons have their way with the Lakers in pretty much all 5 Finals games and hearing all this talk of a Lakers demise has brought my attention back to the NBA, though.
I don't think Coach K will leave Duke. He has such a great thing going there even if more and more players are leaving early for the NBA. Even with Larry Brown's win this year, the record of college coaches in the NBA isn't all that great. I would sure love to see Coach K leave Duke, though as I think they might fall off a bit in the years after kind of like what happened to that school down the road.
I just read where it is a reported $40 for 5 years. That's a lot of range balls to say no to, but I don't think he should do it. Look at Coach Wooden, he will always be remembered as the great UCLA coach. Don't most college coaches, at least the greats who try the pro game always come back?
Well, looks like Coach K decided to stay at Duke. Darn. Illinois has been losing a lot of good in state kids to Duke. Just this year, Shaun Livingston decided to commit to Duke but he later chose to go to the NBA. Livingston came from Peoria which is kind of what Flint, Michigan was for the Michigan State Spartans. Anyway, I can't wait until college basketball season starts. Can't forget about NFL either. Being an Illinois fan, college football isn't my favorite sport to follow but I know there are a lot of people on here that will have an interest when the season starts.
You were right, victory! Coach K is staying at Duke.
Not even $40 million could lure him away from his dynasty to a fading dynasty. He realized that after 5 years, he probably would have been out of a job in Los Angeles, whereas at Duke, he'll still be running the show for as long as he wants. He just proved to me how really smart he is by not going for that deal.
I'm glad Coach K is staying. The arena they play in at Duke is named after him, why would you want to leave??? I'm a big hoop fan (NBA and NCAA) so it was an interesting story. I'm always surprised when a successful college coach moves to the NBA. The games/players/administrative duties all seem so different. Seems next to impossible to be successful at both. Other than Larry Brown, who coached pro ball 20+ years before winning a title in the NBA, there isn't anyone else whose won an NCAA title and NBA championship.
well i'm a big University of North Carolina (UNC) fan.... so i'm hoping that he's going to leave. And if the Lakers are inviting him, its going to be a HUGE contract. but deep down i dn't think he's going to leave. I think that he's going to stay with Duke and hold his title. keep in mind, a good college coach doesn't mean that he's also going to be a good nba coach.
He already said he was going to stay. I heard after the Lakers found out, they talked to your coach Roy Williams on the phone. I think Rudy T is gonna take the job, though if he hasn't already.
