I've been thinking about this topic for quite a while. I suspect that on those few occasions that a member forgets the rules and posts something inappropriate that the violation may be the result of alcohol or drug-impaired judgement.
I know that several times usually humorous, gracious members have reacted especially nastily in posts and/or in personal messages. Are these uncharacteristic outbursts a result of the booze talking?
We have laws against drunk driving; should we have laws against drunk posting?
The poll that accompanies this thread in anonymous, so you don't have to worry about being identified. And for those of you who may suspect that my posts are alcohol fueled? Nope. Coffee is my computer drink, so I may be "wired," but not "tight"!

People have different opinions, and feel strongly about different things. I've had posts removed on this board that I thought were perfectly fine, but mods considered "Flames". I don't like any kind of censorship, and tend to get a little angry when someone censors something I have to say. Maybe that is why some folks may get uncharacteristicly nasty. I don't think it has anything to do about being drunk.
W'hy, to think such a thing could happen on such a wonder ful sight as Golf Rewind is absolut ely pre, pre, pre, post erous. I just ca n't believe that anyyyyyone would even think o,o,o,of it. you shhhou ld be absolut ly be ash, ash, ash, ashamed of your self valeogut. geez

I prefer to think of the moderators as an extension of my usually good judgement, or perhaps as editors who are more knowledgeable than I in what "sells" to the public. It's not so much what is said, but how it's said, in most cases.
And, Stag, even I sometimes can't believe the thoughts that pop into my head.

Exactly.
Also, I don't think there's a right to free speech on a forum. When you join you choose to abide by the terms and accept the actions of the forum moderators. If that's not good enough, people are free to start their own forum and say anything they wish to, there. This forum is one of the best I've ever been to and I have to say I feel that the folks who run it do a great job.
Well I didn't lie in the poll, Stag. There is definitely no right to free speech here. We edit even the most minor swears. We remove any posts that could be perceived as a flame towards another poster. You may trash the opinion , but not the member who posts it. It's not that hard really. We also have no tolerance for racial, ethnic, faith or gender bashing. We make no apologies for any of this. If our rules trouble anyone, spend some time on discussion boards that are not moderated and anything goes... some of the ESPN boards for instance. If you find the sort of "discussion" found there to your liking, you have my sympathies... and go in peace.

Great topic valeogut! I've never posted while drinking or drugging but I'm sure many may think otherwise.
As moderators, we're responsible for keeping GR family-friendly as it pertains to Language/Content and preventing the flaming that is so prevalent on most other sites. Most members never see the editing of Language/Content, the removal of flaming posts, or the behind the scene battles that occur with those that wish to do GR harm......and that's just the way we'd like to keep it.
Steffie summed things up very well. We're not censoring anyone. We're simply enforcing the rules of membership that everyone agreed to before becoming a member. There are thousands of internet sites that allow anyone to post whatever they chose, using whatever language they choose....Golf Rewind simply isn't one of them. We openly welcome everyone into our community but members must abide by the rules to remain here. Those that don't approve, or can't abide by the rules, are more than welcome to go elsewhere and we sometimes encourage them to do so.
That being said....we've lost a few good members recently due to their odd behavior. That puzzles us but alcohol could very well have been a factor.
I am fairly new to this forum but, I have yet to be edited out on anything regardless of the idiocy of my posts. You Mods do a good job, keep up the good work
Well, I don't post very often. I do read the post quite a bit. The only time I post is when I am at work, so there will be no drinking (although, sometimes I could use one)! I laugh when I see that a post has been edited for language. If I felt as if a swear needed to be a part of my post, I would think that the ****'s would be enough to get my point across without typing the actual words.
Anyhow, I really enjoy this site. It provides me with plenty of entertainment.

There are plenty of smilies that can, and do, get any message across without using profanity. The absence of even the smallest of swears is what helps keep GR the unique place that it is.
