Anyone ever have food poisoning??

Sorry for the possible gross topic, but my wife and I went out for dinner on Wednesday night 3/29. Got home and went to bed around 12:30. I woke up at 6:30am with horrible nausea. After "releasing" , 30 min later, the nausea came back- and so on -thru the day. I then got the chills- and a fever of 102 followed the nausea. The fever is now around 99.5, but now I'm experiencing sharp pains in my intestines. I've missed 2 days of work and have been thru **** the last 48 hours or so.

I didn't eat anything before or after the meal, so it's almost certain the dinner was the cause. Any help right now would be greatly appreciated, and any similar experiences out there would be helpful. Also, should I call the restaurant and inform them of the torture chamber they had me in, and are they liable for anything? Thanks.

food poisoning usually doesn't last that long but it can, sounds more like a stomach virus. Eiter way make sure you stay up on your fluids or you'll need to hit the er to get rehydrated. Food poisoning is extremely hard to prove on an individual basis, you would need stool samples and such also. You can call them or the health department, but unless there is a lot of complaints it won't go far.

I have to agree with beerlord if it is an isolated case it want go very far, you can notify your local Health Department just in case there are more than just your complaint. In 1970 I got food poisoning bad enough to end up in the hospital. Started to get sick about 2 hours after lunch with had muscle contractions, difficult breathing, horrible nausea etc. there were about a dozen people who ate at that restaurant and had varying cases of food posing the restaurant was closed down for about three months the health department traced the cause back to bad meat from one of there suppliers. Did get some compensation from the restaurant to cover medical bills. In regards to what to do if it is just minor drink plenty of fluids Gatorade, PowerAde etc.will help to re-hydrate. Good luck

I had food poisoning once several years ago. It was about the most uncomfortable experience I ever had. Definitely the sickest I had ever been.

It did not last 48 hours. From the time it kicked in the painful period lasted 5 or 6 hours. Then I spent the 24 hours or so feeling kind of wiped out.

You probably have a stomach virus of some kind.

My kids and I are just getting rid of a stomach bug. We got fevers, 99.5 up to 101, and having a hard time holding food down. I figure that what's popular these days. It should clear up within a few days with rest and fluids.

I did get something once though. I took a heatlhy load of creatine powder one day, and my wife later pointed out that it had expired a few years before. It was blue ink on a black bottle, I didn't see it. Hives for a few weeks. Itchy nasty bumpy hives. The only thing that helped was Advanced Strength Benadryl. Oh man, that stuff is strong. I'd take it 3 times a day. It was hard staying awake at work, but somehow I pulled it off. No one knew anything was wrong with me. Gosh, do I always seem drowsy???

I don't think its food poisoning...as food poisoning will usually only last 18-36 hours after you've eaten something bad. My wife and I had food poisoning a few years ago after eating crab legs and it is definitely something I don't ever want to go through again. From 10 PM until 6 AM the next day we both spent a lot of time hanging our heads over trash cans or the toilet...to this day neither of us can stand the idea of eating crab legs.

The restaurant isn't liable for you getting sick. What could you possibly sue for? The cost of the meal you hacked back up? Time spent in the restroom? It may not be a bad idea to inform them that the food you ate had either expired or was improperly cooked....that is assuming it had anything to do with the food.

It could have been something so simple as germs on a door handle that you both touched.

Drink Gatorade. I have had it a couple of times and after many sessions of "releasing" you need to get something back into you. Gatorade works the best for me. If you want a silver lining to your cloud, just think of all the weight you are losing.

Thanks for the responses. It's been almost 3 days now, and I'm happy to say that I feel about 80% better. I'm just left with stomach cramps that are less frequent and general overall lethargic and weak feeling. Other than this, no more pain and discomfort.
I took Tylenol PM at around 10:00 each night and slept alot
Drank 2 glasses of prune juice/day on the final 2 days
Drank plently of fluids- warm tea, water, juice (even when I didn't want it)
Ate 1 small meal/day (couldn't force feed myself any more than that)
Watched alot of golf

Lesson to be learned : Anytime you eat at a restaurant, you are at the complete mercy of what's happening "behind the scenes." No matter how good the food tastes, you have no idea how it got there, who's handling it, or how they are handling it. I guess this is the risk you take when eating out. What I went thru the last 3 days, I wouldn't wish on my worst enemies. Be careful out there. LE

Having been to India regularly, I am an authority on food poisioning and the steps to take.

1.Extra fluid, water or still energy drinks.
2.Immodium plus stops the Johnny CAsh impersonation (remember Ring of Fire?)
3.Eat bland biscuits/crackers
