I saw this somewhere else but thought it was pretty funny..
Television's game of musical chairs, which began with Katie Couric's move from NBC's "Today" to "The CBS Evening News" and continued with Meredith Vieira's shift from ABC's "The View" to "Today," reached critical mass today as Osama bin Laden announced that he would leave the Arabic language Al Jazeera network to fill Ms. Vieira's spot on "The View."
The choice of Mr. bin Laden, a veteran of thousands of hours of televised terror tapes but a newcomer to morning TV, struck many in the television industry as bizarre, but ABC spokesman Carol Foyler called his selection "a home run for us."
"Osama is clearly going to bring in a whole new demographic," Ms. Foyler told reporters in New York. "Traditionally, 'The View' has been very strong with women but relatively week with rabid jihadists."
Ms. Foyler said that Mr. bin Laden would not appear on the New York set of "The View" but would be allowed to do his job from a remote undisclosed location: "Basically, we're giving him the same deal Dick Cheney has."
While ABC trumpeted its deal with Mr. bin Laden, his move to "The View" has created a vacancy at Al Jazeera as the network scrambles to find a replacement to provide it with chilling terror videos.
"We need someone terrifying who has TV experience," said an Al Jazeera spokesman. "Right now we're taking a close look at Paris Hilton."
Sorry, nothing funny here. Maybe Hitler doing standup? Or Edie Amein hosting a cooking show? Or maybe Jim Jones writing a colomn on fine wines? How about Al Queta Air Lines, Americans ride for free!
Satire can be a fine line.
Satire is always in poor taste, particularly if you are, or something you like is, the target of it.
Satire makes people and issues look ridiculous to amuse and to effect change. Satire is under no restriction to be fair or evenhanded, because by its very nature it is one-sided, opinionated, determined to make something look really silly.
We should all be able to recognize the ridiculousness of some of our and our society's and human nature's behavior and profit from that recognition.
If I had the time, I'd like to satirize people who misspell Edie Adams' name. Wasn't she Ernie Kovacs' wife?
Was reading a music message board last night and came across it. It was obviously cut and pasted from somewhere else because it was the only thing on that MB that had it's spelling correct.
After reading some of the responses to it, I didn't realize we had so many Paris Hilton haters on board.
Or those who spell Idi Amin's name so poorly that others don't even know who is being referred to!
I'm sorry that nobody picked up on my attempt to "satirize" shadowjack's misspelling of "Idi Amin," by turning his "Edie Amein" into "Edie Adams," but that's another danger of satire--that people will misunderstand your intent or not "get" the joke. That's why writing is such a lonely endeavor: Sometimes nobody enjoys how clever you are but yourself!

Well I'm sorry. I totally missed shadowjack's "Edie Amein". I assumed that you'd either pulled it from another thread or had possibly lost your mind. It's actually very funny ... in retrospect, Val.
