New Bands you've been listening too

Here are a few I've been listening too...

Arctic Monkeys - "Whatever people Say I am, That's s what I am Not".
Good Album, I think they're getting a little overhyped by people, especially those saying they are going to be better than the Beatles. But they are good none the less

The Racontuers - "Broken Boy Soldiers"
This is Jack White of the White Stripes side band. They're album is set to release May 16th, but I managed to get a copy early. The album is very Beatle esque, containing much of the similar rhythms.

Billy Talent - Self Titled album.
This group has been around for a while from what I understand, but I managed to stumble across them last September. Pretty good album.

The F- Ups - Self titled album
Good album that combines punk and traditional rock. Pretty much an album about teenage angst.

Avenged Sevenfold - City of Evil
One of the few bands with a very distinct sound, just nice to hear something different for a change.

And of course I've been listening to alot of Nirvana lately. Although it is not a new band I still love they're music. Listening makes you truly understand the lyrical genius Kurt Cobain was and how incredibly he could work the guitar.

I'm kind of tired of the punk pop girly music that has been coming out recently as well as the emo stuff that talks about guys who feel bad about loosing they're girlfriends. I think its time for a band to come and drastically change music. Ala The Beatles for traditional southern rock, Nirvana for hair bands and horrible 80's music and Green Day for the Grunge scene. I don't know where the new sound or band will come from but I hope it comes soon. Heck I may start a band just to make a change...
Are they're any new bands you guys have been listening too?

I quite like The Raconteurs song - "Steady, As She Goes". If the rest of the album is strong they will do well.

Watch out for Dirty Pretty Things (ex-Libertines) - their new single is ace!

More obscure stuff - there's a band from Philadelphia called Hail Social, their album has been on my iPod a lot recently.

Tokyo Dragons - bit tongue in keep, but way better than certain other bands I could mention.

I've also recently gotten into a guy called Jonny Dickinson, great Dobro & National slide player. He's a Folk Musician from the North East of England, but manages to breathe new life into trad folk songs etc with his slide playing which melds in this Country & blues feel slide playing as if it was the most natural thing in the world to hear in English folk music, especially when he's doing his border ballads... great stuff.

Yeah... don't know much about them yet... just started to get into them...
First heard of them on Sirius satellite's Jam On station. They're pretty darn good!

Also getting into the North Mississippi Allstars... killer band!

Old guy here. At this very moment, a young person I know is at a concert by "Death Cab for Cutie" and "Franz Ferdinand". Has anyone here heard of these people? They any good or what? Could someone give me some 411 so I can make a halfway-interesting comment next time I talk to this person? Thanks from a geezer.

I like the Darkness. Some great guitar work on both their CD's. Also Los Lonely Boys past CD was a great Rock/Blues work. What ever happened to CD # 2. It's been 3 years since CD #1.

My 16 yr old boy knows "Death Cab..." Says they are "pretty okay". He has a couple of their tunes on his iPOD.
He considers DCfC to be "slower sounding" than most alternative bands, but they're pretty good.

Don't know who the other guy, "Franz Ferdinand" is.

Say.. if most bands are alternative, does that still makes them "alternative" ?

Ponder that.

Franz Ferdinand - critically and commercially popular "indie" band from Scotland. Their first album (called Franz Ferdinand) was album of the year for 2004 in most of the British music press. Their stated aim is to "make music for girls to dance to". Biggest hit is "Take Me Out". If you remember Dexys Midnight Runners you get a bit of an idea where they are coming from - angular guitar lines and danceable yet military drumming. Quite "arty". I've got both their albums.

Thanks for your info, too, Jungle. The band has a cool "mission statement"!

The person I know who was at the concert liked Franz Ferdinand better, and is in fact a young woman. However, she was also OK with Death Cab for Cutie (what a name).
